Zoë's actions

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Learn about Native Species

The world is full of unique species. I will spend 15 minutes each day learning what the native plants and wildlife are in my region.

COMPLETED 6
DAILY ACTIONS

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Biodiversity and Me

I will spend at least 10 minutes each day researching what biodiversity is, how biodiversity positively impacts our world, and how the loss of biodiversity harms it. I will share what I learn on the feed.

COMPLETED 5
DAILY ACTIONS

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Leave No Trace

I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace whenever I am outside.

COMPLETED 6
DAILY ACTIONS

Land + Forests

30 for 30 in Nature

Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.

COMPLETED 5
DAILY ACTIONS

Land + Forests

Explore My Area

When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 120 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Use Reusable Bags

Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.

COMPLETED 2
DAILY ACTIONS

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

    • Hi Team! Decided to post about my 30 minute lunchtime walk in the woods today! I brought this little book and identified as many little wildflowers as I could find. Saw lots of Wood sorrel (Wood sorrel family), Bluebells (Lily family) Lesser Celendines, Marsh Marigolds, ,Creeping Buttercups (all Buttercup family) and Herb Robert (Geranium family) and Daisies (Asteracea or Daisy, Dandelion & Thistle family)...It's a lovely way to relax, exercise and also learn more about our native Irish species (one of my actions which I set myself for the challenge). Sadly, I also saw some Japanese Knotweed which is a highly invasive species that has spread across most of Ireland. This plant was introduced to Ireland as an ornamental plant in the early 1900s but it is really aggressive/resilient and takes over huge spaces in very short periods of time and outcompetes our native vegetation. The removal process is highly specialised and I think it is illegal to touch it unless licensed to do so. I'll alert my local council and hopefully they can remove it correctly. You can read more on this if you are interested here: Tackling Japanese Knotweed in Ireland: A Comprehensive Guide | AgriNews Today Hope you are all enjoying the challenge! I would love to hear how you are getting on!
