Rufino Hardy's actions
Action Track: Community
JOIN OR CREATE A GREEN TEAM AT EMERSON
I will continue to contribute to Emerson's environmental sustainability goals beyond April by learning more about the Global Green Teams Network, joining a team near me, or maybe even creating a new team.
Action Track: Community
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE NEWS ON SUSTAINABILITY AT EMERSON
I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY, and WITH news.
Action Track: Community
TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN
I will take at least one photograph that is connected with this year's theme of Nature Conservation & Biodiversity (for example an urban park, bee hives, birds and other animals...) and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.
Action Track: Community
ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINAR
On Wed 24th April, I will attend the Earth Month Ecochallenge Webinar on Conservation to learn about what individuals, companies and other organizations can do to promote biodiversity and nature protection.
Freshwater + Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
We need to support healthy seafood populations. I will spend 30 minutes learning about sustainable seafood choices, commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean, and share what I learned on the feed.
Freshwater + Oceans
Reduce Pollutants in Cleaning
Understanding cleaning product ingredients and their effect on water and biodiversity is helpful to our consumer choices. I will spend 30 minutes learning about how cleaning products affect our water and try making my own cleaning products to reduce pollutants.
Freshwater + Oceans
Go Plastic-Free
Millions of tons of plastic is produced each year worldwide. Each day, I will conduct a plastics audit of what I buy and use throughout the challenge (kitchen, bathroom, personal care products, etc.), to see how single-use plastic shows up in my life. I will find plastic-free alternatives to these products and advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, product manufacturers, at work, or on campus.
Land + Forests
Carry My Trash
I will carry all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash with me this month, to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill. I will post on the feed my reflections, conversations, and actions I will take moving forward.
Land + Forests
Plant Trees
Trees capture carbon and produce oxygen that is essential to life on earth. I will support this important piece of nature by organizing or joining a community group to plant 1 native trees in my community, public parks, office location, campus or backyard.
Climate + Air
Consume only Needs vs Wants
The more stuff we consume, the more greenhouse gasses we put into the atmosphere. I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach this month and only buy things I need.
Climate + Air
Declutter My Home Without the Landfill
Each day, I will learn about responsible ways to dispose of items and de-clutter, clean, donate, repurpose or recycle unneeded items in my home to make sure that what I get rid of doesn't go into the landfill.
Climate + Air
Use Public Transit
Public transportation reduces pollution, improves community, and creates safe streets. I will use public transit 1 miles per day and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Rufino Hardy Delgado 4/10/2024 11:52 PMEvery weekend, I walk to the nearest grocery store instead of riding a motorcycle when buying food or household needs. This is one of the small ways I can contribute to reducing the carbon footprint. -
Rufino Hardy Delgado 4/10/2024 11:38 PMI'm already skipping breakfast as part of my fasting diet. Little did I know that I'm already reducing my carbon footprint.-

Rufino Hardy Delgado 4/10/2024 11:23 PMThis challenge also made me aware of the current impact of various lifestyles which is not just a simple factor to the environment but also to my health. -
Rufino Hardy Delgado 4/10/2024 11:21 PMSo far, I'm on track with the challenge. As I progress, I learned more initiatives on how I can contribute in preserving our environment. This challenge made me more aware of the impact of our ways as consumer. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Declutter My Home Without the LandfillHow did it feel to intentionally declutter with putting things into the landfill? What did you learn along the way about yourself and our consumer and waste systems?
Rufino Hardy Delgado 4/10/2024 11:16 PMThough at first, there is guilt since your adding waste to the land file from your unused materials and items but then it made me realize that this is the first step contributing by consuming & buying less. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Reduce Pollutants in CleaningWhat did you learn about ingredients in our cleaning products and how they impact water and biodiversity? Did you try making your own cleaning products? If so, how did it go?
Rufino Hardy Delgado 4/10/2024 11:12 PMHaving a strong cleaning product has a high impact to our environment especially to our water bodies. I did try to create a cleaning product by mixing vinegar and typical dishwashing liquid. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Rufino Hardy Delgado 4/10/2024 11:08 PMConsumption of fish based on mercury level. There are some fish varieties with high level of mercury which if consumed frequently will cause health issues like neurological damage. Consuming such variety should be done with caution. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Rufino Hardy Delgado 4/07/2024 7:46 PMI think it is more on impact to my wellbeing. Planting trees is one of ways you can connect with the natural environment. It helps me relieve my stress and other negative vibe I have.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Go Plastic-FreeWhere did plastic show up on your life that surprised you the most? What plastic alternative products did you discover you may switch to?
Rufino Hardy Delgado 4/07/2024 7:43 PMRight now, we no longer use plastic in doing our groceries. Instead, we use Eco bag, paper bag or carton box. We use it minimally for wet goods and cleaning agents. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Use Public TransitHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Rufino Hardy Delgado 4/07/2024 7:39 PMI normally go to work using public transportation. For me, one of the benefits of this is that I can rest while commuting and I have nothing to worry about like driving, the fuel and other expenses.
