Sayan 's actions
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Itr's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Land + Forests
Carry My Trash
I will carry all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash with me this month, to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill. I will post on the feed my reflections, conversations, and actions I will take moving forward.
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Action Track: Community
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Action Track: Community
Plant Trees
Trees capture carbon and produce oxygen that is essential to life on earth. I will support this important piece of nature by organizing or joining a community group to plant 1 native trees in my community, public parks, office location, campus or backyard.
Action Track: Community
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Action Track: Community
JOIN OR CREATE A GREEN TEAM AT EMERSON
I will continue to contribute to Emerson's environmental sustainability goals beyond April by learning more about the Global Green Teams Network, joining a team near me, or maybe even creating a new team.
Action Track: Community
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE NEWS ON SUSTAINABILITY AT EMERSON
I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY, and WITH news.
Action Track: Community
TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN
I will take at least one photograph that is connected with this year's theme of Nature Conservation & Biodiversity (for example an urban park, bee hives, birds and other animals...) and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.
Action Track: Community
ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINAR
On Wed 24th April, I will attend the Earth Month Ecochallenge Webinar on Conservation to learn about what individuals, companies and other organizations can do to promote biodiversity and nature protection.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Sayan Chakraborty 4/22/2024 9:56 PMTrees provide the indispensable component Oxygen for our living breathing in the Carbon dioxide. Apart from helping in breathing, oxygen also helps in keeping our mind and heart lively and joyful. It is observed that green is a color that soothes human eyes, body and mind. Green color is often associated with tranquility, serenity which has a positive impact on our body and mind. -
Sayan Chakraborty 4/09/2024 4:45 AMA week of the Earth Month is passed.
Salute and Kudos to everyone who are constantly changing their actions and thriving to save our mother earth -
Sayan Chakraborty 4/07/2024 9:38 PMCompleting the actions, although not just as a task or just to participate in the challenge, and sharing the views in the feed, answering the reflection questions has become a part and parcel of my morning. Gives a different kind of positivity and good vibe for the rest of the day.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Borrow Before I BuyHow did you participate in the sharing economy? (Consider posting a photo!) What are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?
Sayan Chakraborty 4/07/2024 9:32 PMFollowing are the actions I took to participate in sharing economy-- We 4 roommates bought on single Iron for our use, instead of buying for individual. Same goes for kitchen utensils and other appliances
- I travel to office and home mostly with colleagues' bike or by public transport. Do not use private cab if not extremely necessary
- Use rented bike or car when needed instead of having own, since I don't have regular use of it.
Sharing economy allows existing, underused assets to be used more efficiently. It can reduce financial burden on an individual. It builds trust among the community. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Use Reusable BagsHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Sayan Chakraborty 4/06/2024 1:12 PMThere was no difficulty. Many substitute options are available in the market- Jute bags, paper bags etc. you just need to select any as per use.
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests 30 for 30 in NatureWhat have you noticed about how it feels to spend consistent time outside?
Sayan Chakraborty 4/06/2024 1:03 PMSpending time outside in the morning gives immense amount of energy and positivity for the entire day.
Spending time outside after a tiresome day takes away all the monotony, exhaustion from body and mind.
This truly happens -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Carry My TrashThis is no small task! What was eye-opening to you throughout this action? How will you change your actions going forward to reduce the waste you produce?
Sayan Chakraborty 4/06/2024 1:00 PMthe biggest eye opening was - people treat their waste as a waste of their own and of their house. The do not consider, those are waste to the nature, to earth and to other people also. Cleanliness to some people is like keeping the trashes away from them and from their house, and not from the nature.
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Use a Reusable Water BottleWhat did you learn about the amount of plastic we consume and what actions will you take to reduce your use of plastic?
Sayan Chakraborty 4/06/2024 12:55 PMThe maximum number of plastic consumption happens through the use of plastic bottles. We can use bottles made of metals like Copper, Steel and completely stop using plastic bottles for drinking water.
Now a days even bottles made of mud or clay are available. Even those are very good alternative of plastic bottles. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Sayan Chakraborty 4/06/2024 12:48 PMIt is not very usual all of sudden anyone start picking litters. Our mindset tells there are designated persons from concerned authorities for the same. But when I started doing it, many people of different ages stopped and watched, some them even came forward and asked why I was doing that. I told them as per my knowledge, about earth month and importance of keeping the our area clean by putting the waste at waste bins or at particular places. Gradually more no of people started showing interest and joined me.
