Carbon emissions can show up in many surprising ways in our life. I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.
Action Track: Community
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Action Track: Community
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Reduce Pollutants in CleaningWhat did you learn about ingredients in our cleaning products and how they impact water and biodiversity? Did you try making your own cleaning products? If so, how did it go?
Anarina Binzari 4/24/2024 1:45 AMI learned that many ingredients in conventional cleaning products can be harmful to water quality and biodiversity when they enter the environment through wastewater. Chemicals like phosphates, surfactants, and fragrances can contribute to water pollution and harm aquatic ecosystems. To mitigate these impacts, I have started using eco-friendly cleaning products and have also experimented with making my own cleaning products using natural ingredients like vinegar and baking soda. The homemade products have proven to be effective and environmentally friendly alternatives to store-bought cleaners. 💚-
Nicoleta Lupoaie 4/24/2024 4:16 AMOne aspect I found particularly concerning is the persistence of certain chemicals in conventional cleaning products, even after they have been washed down drains. Residual traces of these chemicals can persist in waterways for long periods, accumulating over time and posing ongoing risks to aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity.
Additionally, the production and disposal of conventional cleaning products contribute to various environmental impacts beyond water pollution. These include energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, plastic waste from packaging, and the depletion of natural resources.
In response to these concerns, I have taken steps not only to switch to eco-friendly cleaning products but also to minimize my overall consumption and waste. This includes adopting a more minimalist approach to cleaning products, choosing products with minimal packaging, and exploring alternatives such as refillable options or DIY solutions to further reduce environmental impact.
