I pulled out a dead bush last year and, in its place, I planted purple coneflowers. Additionally, I will give sunflowers a try this year and have the seeds to start those this week at the back of the yard.

I will be joining the DuPage River sweep on the first weekend of May. It won't be during Earth Month, but that's ok!

A little late to the party here (every month is eco-month for the sustainability team!) but really it is never too late to start sharing what we are doing and being more transparent. There are lots of items that many folks may already be doing...and opportunities to learn and do more! Let's get to it!

I marvel at nature, and its ability to send us snow in April. I will miss that in the future.

Today I learned about disposing cooking oil. You can pour used cooking oil into a sealed container and throw out with regular trash. You can compost the oil if plant based and used to used plant based food. Before you throw away/compost after one time use, try straining the oil of the crumbs and reuse the oil.

I was surprised that the most recommended method was to just throw it away in a sealed container.

Another fun fact - You can donate your oil to Loyola University Chicago for it to be processed into biofuel!
