Freshwater + Oceans Say No to Plastic Straws
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

I tend to not use single-use items on the daily, but I've always been curious about non-single-use period products. There's definitely an "ick" factor I would have to get over before trying.

Freshwater + Oceans Understand My Water Footprint
What did you learn about your water footprint and what are you going to do to reduce and be aware of the water you use?

Though my water footprint was lower than the US average, it is still amazing to see how much water I use in a day! I would say my biggest "splurge," if you will, is taking long showers. I will try to reduce the amount of water I use in my showers by turning it off or lowering the water pressure while I wash my hair and/or shave.

Action Track: Community Keep My Community Clean
How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

If every person picked up one piece of trash in a day there would be over 300 million fewer pieces of litter.
When the sanitation truck comes down my street for the bi-weekly garbage pick up, there are often times that a few pieces of garbage do not all make into the truck ...that is when I will step in (or out) to pick up what is left behind and scattered in the street (especially in front of my house).

That's great that you do that, Christine! I think sometimes we are all guilty of thinking that something "isn't our responsibility." And though, yes, we can't do everything, all the time, doing what we can, even if it's something small, really does help our communities and planet.

Freshwater + Oceans Use a Reusable Water Bottle
What did you learn about the amount of plastic we consume and what actions will you take to reduce your use of plastic?

Unfortunately, in this day and age, plastic is ubiquitous. But it doesn't need to be. It really wasn't that long ago when something like a single-use plastic water bottle wasn't even a thought in our collective consciousness. Though I am certainly grateful for the technological advances of our modern age, I also think we need to prioritize the longevity of our planet over minor conveniences.

Action Track: Community Borrow Before I Buy
How did you participate in the sharing economy? (Consider posting a photo!) What are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?

My mom received an appliance as a gift. She opened the box, but never used the product. Since the box was open, it could not be returned or donated. Luckily, when I asked a coworker of mine if they could use it, they were happy to take the product! I feel glad to know that the appliance will be used, rather than end up in a landfill.
