Love this. I have two huge areas for garden beds ... my favorite thing is after planting seeds, seeing the little seedlings pop up ... and thankfully the peas are in a straight row. :)

I have a grow-light with several pods to grow seedlings. I started growing a few different kinds of herbs recently and some of them have gotten big enough that I was able to repot them which is always really satisfying :)

I’m helping organize my church’s annual yard sale and I find it really fulfilling to see so many items donated that will have an extended life. Any items not sold are first offered to refugee families and then donated to habitat for humanity in an effort to let as little go to waste as possible.

My Earth month ecochallenge 2025 is going well! I joined a book club to help for community and connection, I am incorporating more meatless meals and meditation for health and well-being, I have learned a lot about pollinators and choosing forest friendly foods.

What new insights did you gain about seaweed’s role in combating environmental challenges? Were you surprised how many products you may already be using contain seaweed?

I had no idea how beneficial the growing and cultivating of seaweed is for the planet. It's incredible how positive the Nexus rating is for seaweed farming in all categories because there are such a wide range of benefits to be found. I've enjoyed eating seaweed since I was a kid but I will make a more conscious effort moving forward to purchase items made with seaweed to support this industry.

I haven't successfully kept a garden since I was a child, mostly due to space constraints. I'm making a plan now to see what I can grow in my limited indoor/outdoor spaces!

What new information did you learn about the weather risks in your area, and how has it changed the way you think about emergency preparedness?

I definitely need to update my emergency survival kit. I think it maybe has half of the recommended items in it. This was a good reminder to get prepared before an emergency happens.

Where in your life do you emit the most carbon? What change are you willing to make in your daily life to reduce this output?

    Eve Nelson's avatar
    Eve Nelson 4/02/2025 1:05 PM
I was surprised to learn that the category I emit the most carbon in is travel. I don't travel by plane very often and I drive a fairly fuel efficient car but my travel output was nearly double that of my consumption. It's definitely something I'll need to be more conscious of whenever making travel arrangements in the future.

It's estimated that one out of every three bites of food we eat depends on pollinators! They also help keep our air clean, and our ecosystem thriving! To ensure they continue to thrive, simple things we can do include planting pollinator friendly gardens, reducing use of pesticides, and offering water sources outside like bird baths or fountains.
