I spent some time in my garden this weekend cleaning up old plants, weeding, and mulching. It was a treat for me to get outside while we had decent weather and it was a treat for my plants that got some compost tea fresh from our mulcher!

    Empowering the Next Generation
How does supporting programs for emerging leaders make you feel about investing in the next generation? What impact do you hope your donation will have on the future of sustainability leadership?

I need to research more about leadership programs for young emerging leaders in Kerala. While the government provides good support - like scholarships and other programs for top students - there are not many nonprofit organizations helping young leaders.

I want to support them through my time and donations. I would also like to understand how these efforts can create sustainable leadership for the future. Let's see how this develops.

We have created a fruit garden at our home with lots of different fruit trees and plants like mango, banana, orange jackfruit – there are so many, I can't even remember all of them! Once we watered them at the beginning, one type of plant will naturally help feed the others, so the garden will last a long time.

My dad is enjoying his retirement there in Kerala, but I only get to see it when I visit from the UAE

What is one way you can reduce your impact on nature the next time you spend time outdoors, and how might that action help preserve the environment for others?

Our gang loves being outdoors, especially in forests and we always do our best to make ethical choices to minimize our impact on nature. We care about all 7 Leave No Trace principles.

While we value all of them, we pay extra attention to #4 and #5: we are always careful to leave everything exactly as we find it in the area. Also, even though we rarely have campfires, we are especially mindful to reduce any potential environmental impact when we do.

In my hometown, Kerala, I visited a school that created a butterfly park very cheaply. They just planted a special plant (I can't remember the name) that attracts many butterflies and they come and stay there. The school offered to give me these plants so I can try making a butterfly park at my home too.

We are also planning to start beekeeping in our fruit forest to make honey for our family. I'm curious to see how it goes.

The recent cultural place I visited was Qasr Al Hosn. It's an old fort that belonged to the former rulers of Abu Dhabi. The Abu Dhabi government has taken great care to preserve this old fort and has also built new areas around it where visitors can spend time.

The old fort is impressive because it was built hundreds of years ago using natural construction methods and it still looks strong today. It makes you think about how ancient builders considered nature and the environment. It seems like later, people started using up natural resources and building without thinking about the environment as much.

Interestingly, the new structures near Qasr Al Hosn look modern and are designed to be sustainable. Abu Dhabi seems to be focusing on becoming one of the most sustainable cities in the world.

I always buy sustainable products for myself, including clothes and packaging, even if they cost a little more. Recently, I chose a slightly pricier toothbrush for my child because it and it was 100% vegan and its tube were labeled sustainable. My last hair conditioner purchase was also based on its 94% natural ingredients and sustainable packaging. Since these are well known brands, I assume their packaging claims about sustainability are accurate.

Good morning! I was just reminiscing about my childhood. We used to leave lights and fans on even after leaving a room or the house. My father, a school teacher, always turned off every single light and appliance when not in use and would tell us to do the same. He also ironed his clothes efficiently by turning the iron off and on as needed, usually doing all his ironing once a week. We didn't follow his example back then, even though he constantly asked us to.

Now, I understand the importance of his actions and encourage my own family to turn off lights and other devices when they're not being used. I also try to use energy saving practices when ironing.
