Action Track: Community Keep My Community Clean
How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

While walking my dog yesterday, I noticed that the retention pond in my area had a bit of debris around it. It bothered me to see such a beautiful landscape trashed with What-a-Burger trash. Because I am sensitive about the earth and its preservation, I was compelled to clean up the mess. Knowing that I did my part to keep our community clean matters at the end of the day. I sent a quick reminder on Nextdoor to all of my neighbors to encourage them to keep our area clean and the wildlife that live around us clean.

Land + Forests Advocate for Forest Protection
Higher standards of living are very often dependent on moving our environmental costs elsewhere. What are some specific ways in which the environmental impacts of your own lifestyle might be shifted elsewhere?

I can shift my buying habits to more local sources and try to support small businesses and farms instead of the large corporations that are singlehandedly destroying the environment,

I'm looking forward to farmer's markets this summer. I think the kids would enjoy doing a chopped basket challenge Food Network-style.

Land + Forests Zero Waste Day
What was hard about having a Zero Waste Day? What did you learn about yourself and your habits?

Definitely the hardest challenge for me. I ended up producing one or to pieces of waste through food containers/wrappers, but was able to reuse one as a sandwich bag for later. Everything else was recyclable or compostable. Most of my waste comes in the form of paper, which I hand a tendency to through in the trash, rather than recycle or compost, which I'll make an effort to do more of.

Climate + Air Online Energy Audit
Where did you do an energy audit (work, home, school, other) and what did you learn?

I performed an energy audit for my 2-bedroom apartment and found that my roommate and I use significantly less electricity than the monthly average -- about 280-300kWh/month, as compared to the average (according to Google lol) of 578 kWh/month. This is likely due to us being frugal with our electricity usage (e.g. only turning on the AC on the weekends when electricity is free, keeping lights off, using fans instead of AC when we can, etc.). However, as summer approaches, this may not be as feasible, and our electricity usage will probably skyrocket

I went walking with my daughter in the wooded area near our neighborhood. We found new trails to explore and had a lot of fun. It has become a new favorite of ours.

I re-did my landscaping in the yard and a neighbor was talking to me. I was about to go to the store to buy supplies and they had some I was able to borrow, keeping me from purchasing any one-time use products that would have been thrown out or forgotten about.

I really enjoyed this one. I walk alot around the neighborhood and in the workplace. Looking for litter and picking it up as I walk has become "fun" for me. I really enjoy this for some strange reason. It has become a game for me when I walk.

It is a mind change. Remembering to grab the bag from the car when going into a store, and for gas stations, not even thinking about it when the clerk just puts items in the bag. Constant trying to change a habit.
