I walk around my neighborhood with my kids and picking up litter shows them how we can do our part if we see litter.

I grew up in a time when litter was an even bigger problem than it is now, but it is starting to get bad again. I taught my kids (now adults) to pick up what they could as well as recycling, and I'm glad to say they still do this. Your kids will too, so well done for teaching them the importance of taking care of things (and respecting this big sphere we call home).

I find that even when I refuse a plastic straw, they give me one anyway :(

I've found this as well but I appreciate that some coffee shops have begun using the cups that have a "built in" straw/are modeled differently so that one is not needed

Exponential increase in plastic over the last 40 years. Focus on eliminating single use items.

Straws have been the primary one. Switching to re-usable straw would be way to go.

I used to use a lot of straws too, but purchased reusable ones (to go with my reusable beverage containers).

It felt great to do my meal planning and see my prevented food waste value increase. I'm looking forward to maintaining this habit even after Earth month & knowing that I'm reducing waste when I do!

I typically use reusable items and encourage my family as well. To-go food is a negative though.

Ingredients in cleaners that are disposed of down the drain are toxic to aquatic species. Didn't try making my own cleaning products.
