Understand My Water Footprint

Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.

Save Water When Washing Dishes

Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

    The best part of hosting a hotpot gathering was seeing everyone enjoy the food and share laughs, but being the host wasn’t my favorite since I had to set up and clean afterwards, which was a lot of work. Next time, I might ask others to pitch in to make hosting less stressful

    What was the most unexpected piece of trash that was picked up during your local cleanup effort? How does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?

    During the cleanup, the weirdest thing someone picked up was an old bike tire, it was just lying there in the dirt. Working with everyone to clean up made me feel proud because we were all helping out and making our community better together.

    Changing how I wash dishes, like using less water and running the dishwasher only when it's full, made me realize how much water I was wasting before.

    I was shocked to realize how much water is used in stuff I never thought about, like making food and clothes. It made me want to cut back by doing things like shorter showers and turning off the tap.

    How did your experience go in trying an action to Leave No Trace? Did you notice others doing the same, or not? From a perspective of having empathy for others, why might people not adhere to the Leave No Trace principles?

    Trying the Leave No Trace actions feels kind of rewarding and it also reduces my environmental impact. Some people may not follow the principles because of a lack of awareness or resources, but spreading the message can help
