Shyanne's actions

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Leave No Trace

I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace whenever I am outside.

COMPLETED 30
DAILY ACTIONS

Land + Forests

Explore My Area

When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 45 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Action Track: Community

Keep My Community Clean

At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.

COMPLETED 30
DAILY ACTIONS

Freshwater + Oceans

Smart Seafood Choices

We need to support healthy seafood populations. I will spend 30 minutes learning about sustainable seafood choices, commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean, and share what I learned on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Freshwater + Oceans

Use a Reusable Water Bottle

Itr's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.

COMPLETED 30
DAILY ACTIONS

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Each person can control their waste amounts. I like to learn how I can further reduce the waste I create.

Just by using a reusable water bottle, I saved a lot of plastic waste in one month. I plan to keep using a reusable water bottle even when this challenge is over.

Picking up litter made me appreciate my community more. We deserve to live in a clean neighborhood and the least we can do is pick up litter.

I took my baby on a walk around our new neighborhood. I moved into this house two weeks ago and have not explored the area yet. It was nice to spend time outside and getting familiar with my surroundings.

I noticed there were quite a few other people out on walks at the same time as us. Must be a good neighborhood to go for daily walks in! Also, there was practically no litter. I only found three pieces on our long walk. It's refreshing to see people hold onto their trash until they can dispose of it properly.

Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?

My diet choices fall within the Illinois guidelines. The Illinois guidelines include limiting consumption of predatory fish to one meal a week. The only fish that I like to eat is salmon and I can only afford to eat it once or twice a month anyways.
