Save Water When Washing Dishes

Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

    • 17-DAY STREAK
As I was waiting for the bus this morning, I realized it was a bit chilly. However, it was worth it, as I am choosing to take public transit, which is a more collective and environmental choice! The minor discomfort was worth it! :)

I think it is fun to be part of this challenge. Before this challenge, I was already taking steps to reduce my impact on the environment. But it's fun to do it with others, inspire others, help motivate others, etc.

Keep up the good work everyone! :)

    Land, Water, and Air
How did changing your dishwashing habits make you more mindful of water use? What other small changes can you make to conserve water in your household?

    • 17-DAY STREAK
I grew up in Asia where access to running water is not as abundant as here, so I feel like I grew up with habits that were conservationalist. For example, when I brush my teeth, I never let the water run. I always turned off the tap. Similar situation for dishes. I guess my change is that when I wash dishes with the tap, I try to not turn on the tap as strong, so the water is not as fast.

I am looking at perhaps purchasing a countertop dishwasher... And I would also only run that when the dishwasher is full.
