Hey Team: Congratulations on another great turn out. Becoming aware of your usual behaviors and making an effort to change them is a very positive thing. Let continue thru the summer being eco-friendly and finding opportunities to support. I had a fun start. I pray you did too.
Greenmead Historical Park is a nearly 200-year-old, 95-acre historical park purchased by the City of Livonia in 1976 and operated by the City of Livonia’s Parks and Recreation Department. The park includes the historical Greenmead Farm and its outbuildings, a 13-building historical village, Greenmead Community Garden, Virginia B. Matley Nature Trail, and soccer fields. Special events are hosted on the grounds of the historical village, including weddings. What a beautiful place for events and fairs. Most of us could care less about historically stop to do history is very one sided. I did not let that stop me from find out what is in my backyard that may have been very used at that time. I do think we should review this place and places like greenfield village to see how far we have come and to appreciate where we are going from this point.
To tell you about this answer I used and article for the FSC enjoy: When buying wood and paper products, look for labels like FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification). These certifications indicate that the products are made from wood and paper sourced from responsibly managed forests, ensuring environmental and social benefits.
SC certification ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits. Why look for it:
FSC standards promote sustainable forest management, protect biodiversity, and respect the rights of forest communities. Examples:
You'll find FSC labels on various products, including furniture, paper, and packaging. FSC 100%:
This means all wood, paper, and other wood-based materials in the product come from FSC-certified forests. FSC Mix:
This indicates that the product contains a combination of FSC-certified wood, recycled materials, and/or controlled wood sources. FSC Recycled:
This means the product is made entirely from recycled or reclaimed materials. PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification):
What it means:
PEFC certified products come from forests managed according to specific standards, ensuring sustainability and responsible practices.
Why look for it:
PEFC certification supports sustainable forestry practices and protects forests for future generations.
Examples:
PEFC labels can be found on a wide range of products, including paper, wood products, and packaging.
On Saturday, my church had an Easter Egg hunt. Usually, we dye eggs and made baskets then place candy in them for a Sunday treat for a continental breakfast with other food after the kids give their resurrection speeches. This year we used plastic prefilled eggs at the hunt and almost all the kids open the eggs at the party. This gave us the opportunity to wash the plastic eggs and save them for refills next year. We saved on the actual eggs and recycled the plastic container. Hope you enjoyed the holiday and what did you recycle this week?
What water justice issues did you learn about, and who is most affected in your community? How can you contribute to creating equitable access to clean water in your area?
Governments must take a human rights-based approach (HRBA) to water and sanitation improvements, so that no one gets left behind. The righttowater entitles everyone to have access to sufficient, safe, acceptable, physically accessible, and affordable water for personal and domestic use. Is access to safe, clean water a human right? It’s not in the U.S. Constitution. The word water appears only once in the Constitution, in a provision that permits Congress to auction off enemy warships. The Bill of Rights guarantees all sorts of things, like the right to refuse overnight accommodations to U.S. soldiers, but it doesn’t say anything about a glass of water. Then again, the founding fathers rarely drank the stuff (they preferred hard cider). And it was hard to foresee the Flint water scandal—or even indoor plumbing—in 1791. Become an advocate for the areas near you of low-income residents to keep issues at the for front of government environmental issues. Yes, Water is just one but a very important topic.
Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! (as some of you may remember Golmer Pile saying). I am always pleasantly surprised at the acts of kindness of children. At our church we have two families who foster 8 children. These kids are the sweetest most kind and consider young people, I have never met. In their short lives they been thru all types of traumas. You would think that they would be bitter and depressed. Well, not this group, every time they see me, they ask what they can do the help others. First, I approached them to show myself friendly and that was a 100% return in my investment in others. No matter the challenge in your day, always select to be kind to others. They will really appreciate you making their day.
So far so good. I'm getting reminder texts on my phone; I have reminders on my outlook calendar. My Comerica Teammates are replying to my post, and I am high fiving and replying to their post. Again, it takes all of 5 minutes to update. Join in the fun and be enlighten by other challenger's experiences.
What perspectives or ideas did you hear from young people, and how did they challenge or expand your understanding of environmental issues? Did anything surprise you that they had to say?
I decided to talk with one of my granddaughters. Kennedy is 12-year-old and knows everything about anything as most kids do and or admit to knowing. She does not understand how we got the earth in this mess (per her words). We were placed on this planet to take care of it not to take advance of it. She asks me. Which one of our leaders lost this important mission? I laughed sadly and said most of them. She laughed at the fact that her generation is going to have to fix things like she views on Channel 56 shows. She thinks if only everyone would do our part. She says, when I'm out doing stuff (like going to the playground each week) with my family and see trash not in the trash can. I pick it up and place it in the can! That is not hard do Grandma! She says, Adults thinks someone else is going to do things like that like the janitor. She said, I guess it's up to me & my friends to save the world for our grandchildren. All I said was this may be true. I'm not shocked at all about some families are not watching these important programs about the earth's current issues. Most of these 60 min. programs would make such a huge impression on the kids views of nature. OK, I was surprised my granddaughter wants grandkids, cause I'm serious about them learning about this earth and making it healthy for all of us.
Let's review being kind to one another. This is one of my chosen actions. It cost you nothing! My thought is it really needs to be intentional. Not like most people, but I must have one of those faces that people are really surprised the kindness I am able to show to them. Time and time again, I been told during my volunteer time & at my church " You are so kind". It makes me smile & jiggle because I did not realize that everyone who is serving others, was not kind. Now for the shameless plug. The Comerica Branch at Merrimam & 5 Mile Road has the niceness most helpful crew I have never encountered at a branch. Ok, I do not go to many branches, but their customer service is OUTSTANDING! My question for you is how would you rate your level of kindness? To your family, friends, colleagues and when you encounter a stranger celebrity or not.
Holly, I am signing in a few days late for this challenge. I always look forward to your posts. This one is really good on kindness and being intentional about it. Keep being a light in the world.
I am happy to hear about the great service provided at one of Comerica's branches at Merriman and 5 Mile Rd.
