Learn more about fireflies

When I was growing up there were always fireflies. The species has been dwindling down due to climate change and insecticides. However, I saw some in my backyard the other night. I’ve downloaded an app so I can submit my sighting so that it’s recorded.

I’ve always been curious as to why you don’t see many fireflies anymore. There are several theories to why such as insecticides and climate change. So when I saw them in my backyard the other night I got so excited. It instantly took me back to my childhood. It was really hard to capture a photo of the firefly so here’s a screenshot. I am submitting this to Firefly Atlas so that it’s documented. And we did let it free. 😁

How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet? What fruits or vegetables did you try this week, and which was your favorite?

Eating more fruits and vegetables is proven to be better for your health and I do have my favorites that I eat. But I'd like to encourage myself to incorporate more into my meals. Last night I had spinach and potatoes. I did start a mini garden and planted tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, peppers, but my hope is to expand on that so I can do my part to improve air quality and reduces my carbon footprint (tiny steps).

Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now? What was the most challenging part of reducing refined sugar, and how did you overcome it?

I'm very familiar with having a sweet tooth. I very rarely drink sodas and for my tea or coffee, I do use sweet-n-low. However, I really need to limit the sweet treats that I eat. I try to find alternatives or keep myself busy to distract myself from wanting something sweet.

My family and I picked up all of this trash at the park. The tomato box was already there unfortunately but we used that to collect it all. We took what we could home to add to our recycle bin. I’ve also already mapped out other areas in my area so we can continue picking up more.
