I learned about flowers, specifically the Rudbeckia hirta or Black-eyed Susan. These flowers are great for pollinators and birds. Losing these flowers would mean losing another good source of food and energy for bees, butterflies, and birds all of which play vital roles in the ecosystem.

We spent the evening gardening. The seeds they planted at the beginning of the month are sprouting and they were very intrigued by the fact that the sun and rain water were making the plants grow their pumpkins and carrots. Today, I learned that our kids' experience with nature is exciting. Every worm, bug, new leaf, bud on the tree or flower blooming is a wonderment. They are understanding that everything is living and has a purpose.

To prepare for extreme weather events, I looked at what items were recommended by the American Red Cross Association for a 72 hour kit. I gathered what items we already had at home and purchased what we were missing for the kits.

The most rewarding part of hosting a gathering is the conversations everyone gets to have. It's always fun to hear stories and learn something about someone that you didn't know before. I love planning and hosting gatherings so I did not run into any challenges!

We put together our rain barrel, 55 gallon capacity, and it filled up after one long, rainy day. It has been eye opening how much water we have been using from the rain barrel that we used from our hose in past years. We have a large garden and plants in our greenhouse that we have been watering with the collected rain water.
