Mari-Lee's actions
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Action Track: Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 2 hours in my community.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
It's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Action Track: Community
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Freshwater + Oceans
Dishwasher Efficiency
Hand washing dishes can use more energy and hot water than a dishwasher. To save water, I will use a dishwasher and scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading them into the dishwasher.
Climate + Air
Low Carbon Diet
Carbon is emitted into the atmosphere in a variety of ways, including through the foods we eat and food we waste. I will learn about low carbon foods and replace higher carbon foods with them in my diet.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Mari-Lee Wessels 4/03/2024 7:36 AMIt brings such a feeling of pride; seeing our clean streets! This activity is also very contagious (in a good way). I saw my neighbour also pick up litter earlier when they walked their dog and it really warmed my heart.-
Marc Addie Garin 4/03/2024 7:46 AMAs simple as picking up litter can make a huge impact not only to our community but to our mother earth as well -
Amber Weischedel 4/03/2024 7:38 AMCleaning a better future of my children always hits home!

REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Use Reusable BagsHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Mari-Lee Wessels 4/03/2024 7:33 AMThis is such an easy challenge. I buy fresh fruit and veg daily; having my special woven bag is great. I always carry it with me just in case. The difficulty comes when buying bakery items at my local supermarket. They still rely on plastic bags for things like pastries and fresh bread.-
Amber Weischedel 4/03/2024 7:40 AMThis challenge is simple for me.

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Low Carbon DietWhich high carbon foods will you eat less of, and what are some low carbon options you'll choose instead?
Mari-Lee Wessels 4/03/2024 7:31 AMI've been vegan for a few years, and chose the lifestyle for health and wellness reasons. I didn't until now really consider the impact on climate and how eating low carbon foods can really make a difference. I'm learning that while I am on plant based diet, there is still a lot more that i can do
