Soil and Food

Preserve or Store Food

Preserving food through freezing, drying, or fermenting helps food last longer, reduces waste, and ensures supplies during difficult times. I will preserve or store food during the challenge to strengthen household and community resilience.

COMPLETED 4
DAILY ACTIONS

Soil and Food

Eat Local and Seasonal Foods

Local and seasonal foods require fewer resources, support nearby farmers, and keep soils healthier through diverse planting. I will source 3 meals per week from local or seasonal producers—such as markets, CSAs, or co-ops—to strengthen community food resilience.

COMPLETED 4
DAILY ACTIONS

Community

Attend a Local Event

Local events such as farmers' markets, festivals, or community meetings like town halls are great ways to feel part of a community. I will attend 2 community events to connect with others and learn more about my area.

COMPLETED 3
DAILY ACTIONS

Water

Save Water When Washing Dishes

Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

COMPLETED 2
DAILY ACTIONS

Community

Express Gratitude and Random Acts of Kindness

Small acts of kindness and gratitude can brighten someone's day and create a positive ripple effect. I will express gratitude to 2 people or perform 2 random acts of kindness to spread joy and connection.

COMPLETED 4
DAILY ACTIONS

Community

Host a Gathering

Bringing people together helps strengthen bonds. I will organize and host a gathering, such as a potluck, coffee meet up, or shared meal, for friends, family, colleagues, or neighbors to foster connection and community spirit.

I froze bread that I bought. My partner is gluten-free and I can't eat bread quick enough before mold is shown, so I tossed it in the freezer before it's bad. This reduces waste by allowing my to continue to eat it until it's gone, rather than quickly becoming bad on the counter.

I also freeze bread to preserve it. If I let it stay in the freezer too long and I don't like the texture for sandwiches, I'll crumble it and make it into meatloaf or tofu balls. I hate to waste food.

I made a GF chicken and dumpling soup. I got chicken, carrot, celery and onion from farmers market saturday and went to a co-op to purchase chicken broth and local farm chicken breast. The flavors and fulfillness in knowing and purchasing from local farms is rewarding- I'm supporting them, and they're providing for me.

Refilling everyones cup! Everyone got together for a planned coffee, two people from out of town, and we shared cake with our coffees. No challenge came from it, just sleepiness!
