When I lived in Indiana, I experienced firsthand how dominant the honeysuckle is. Here in MN, Buckthorn does the same thing. They absolutely dominate the underbrush and can grow quite tall for woody shrubs! many people mistake them for small trees.

Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 15 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.
Biodiversity and Wildlife
Remove Invasive Species
Removing invasive species (species that are not naturally found in my area and can outcompete native plants) can help beautify nature around me and protect local biodiversity. I will learn about invasive plants in my area and, if possible, support or participate in at least one effort to beautify nature near me by removing invasive species.
Community
Express Gratitude and Random Acts of Kindness
Small acts of kindness and gratitude can brighten someone's day and create a positive ripple effect. I will express gratitude to 2 people or perform 2 random acts of kindness to spread joy and connection.

REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity and WildlifeWhat invasive species did you learn about in your area, and how do they impact native plants and wildlife? If you were able to support or partiicpate in an effort to remove invasive species, what did you do, and how it go?
Roberta VanGundy 4/09/2026 1:04 PMThe honeysuckle bush leaves out sooner than native bushes do, and so they shade out the forest floor during the time when the Spring ephemerals are growing and blooming, cutting out needed light. -
Roberta VanGundy 4/03/2026 6:20 AMI joined Ecochlange be cause I'm concerned about the climate change I'm seeing all around me. I'm hoping to do my part to help reduce my impact, and encourage others to do the same.
