Vikram's actions

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Use Reusable Bags

Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.

COMPLETED 29
DAILY ACTIONS

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Leave No Trace

I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace whenever I am outside.

COMPLETED 29
DAILY ACTIONS

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Reduce Animal Products

One kilogram of beef and cheese emits 71kg and 24kg of greenhouse gasses, while 1kg of rice, grains, and legumes emits between 2-4kg. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts emit less than 1kg per 1kg. I will reduce my climate impact by enjoying 3 meatless meals and/or 2 vegan meals each day this week.

COMPLETED 29
DAILY ACTIONS

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Save the Bees

Bees are vital to ecosystems. To help save the bees, I will learn which local flowers provide nectar and plant them in my backyard or in a pot on my balcony.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land + Forests

Carry My Trash

I will carry all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash with me this month, to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill. I will post on the feed my reflections, conversations, and actions I will take moving forward.

COMPLETED 29
DAILY ACTIONS

Land + Forests

Keep My Community Clean

At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.

COMPLETED 29
DAILY ACTIONS

Land + Forests

Zero Waste Day

The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land + Forests

Personal Waste Audit

The waste we create daily can go unnoticed. I will track the waste I create in a day and post a photo log on the feed to see how much I create and where I can make different choices to reduce my waste going forward.

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Biodiversity + Wildlife Leave No Trace
Educator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?

    Missing awareness among the people.
    Plastic pollution.
Importance of planting more and more trees
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I planted couple of flowering plants in the footpaths of my street and doing water regularly.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land + Forests Keep My Community Clean
How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

    Vikram Ural's avatar
    Vikram Ural 4/28/2024 10:24 AM
When you start picking litter in your community, it brings awareness among others, it shows no matter what we are, but it is everybody's responsibility to keep environment clean, when mother nature has given so many things to us, then it is very small contribution that I can make to mother nature and it feels proud to do so.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Biodiversity + Wildlife Reduce Animal Products
How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Vikram Ural's avatar
    Vikram Ural 4/28/2024 10:21 AM
Processing meat requires tones of fresh water. Processing meat releases harmful gases into the air. Animals are part of nature. If we don't care them as they are one among us, then that means we don't care for nature.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land + Forests Personal Waste Audit
What are the results of your waste audit and what did you learn? How can you reduce your waste going forward?

    Vikram Ural 4/22/2024 12:47 AM
Most of the waste stuff I was able to recycle. But there are considerable amount of plastic waste that cannot be recycled. For example some medicines strips, covering for stationaries...how can this plastic be avoided and recycled ? Need assistance here. The company that produces these products should be generous in my making these packing materials.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land + Forests Zero Waste Day
What was hard about having a Zero Waste Day? What did you learn about yourself and your habits?

    Vikram Ural's avatar
    Vikram Ural 4/22/2024 12:44 AM
The hard part is to make it as a daily habit.
I learnt the something that I can give it back to nature is by following this habit.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land + Forests Carry My Trash
This is no small task! What was eye-opening to you throughout this action? How will you change your actions going forward to reduce the waste you produce?

One thing that I am uncertain on how to avoid rations that come in packed plastic bag like grains ? Though they are been mentioned like recyclable, but no vendors accept it for recycle. So this one I am not sure how can make impact in reducing this.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Biodiversity + Wildlife Use Reusable Bags
How difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?

This was not a challenge at all. Every time I go out, irrespective of shopping or some other reason, I made sure I carry a bag with me always, so if there is any surprise shopping, I am not ending up buying plastic bags.

I collected few recyclable plastic waste from the streets. I am planning to collect through out this month and give to a vendor to recycle it. I am watering some plants in the footpaths near to my home.
