Leak Detective Challenge
Check all the sinks, bathtubs, and outdoor taps at home or where you live. If you hear dripping or see water where it shouldn’t be — you found a leak! Tell someone and get it fixed. Even one tiny drip can waste gallons of water every day. Let’s stop the drips and save the planet!

Cool Time Watering Challenge
Water your plants in the early morning or evening when the sun isn’t super hot. That way, the water doesn’t evaporate quickly, and the plants get more of what they need! It’s an easy way to save water and keep your garden happy. Try it for a week and see how your plants like it!

Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.

Save Water When Washing Dishes
Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

Reduce Food Waste
Wasting food also wastes water, energy, and resources. I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.

Take Shorter Showers
Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!

Turn off faucet while Brushing
Instead of letting the water run, only use it when you need to rinse. It might seem small, but you can save up to 4 gallons of water every time!
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat surprised you most about your water footprint, and how did it influence your perspective on water use? What changes can you make to reduce your water consumption, and how will these impact your daily routine?
Pavit Thakkar 4/24/2025 10:43 AMI was surprised by how much water everyday activities like brushing teeth and washing dishes add up. This made me realize the importance of small changes like turning off the tap while brushing or using a sink for washing dishes. By adopting these habits, I can make a significant impact on reducing my water footprint without major disruptions to my daily routine. -
Pavit Thakkar 4/24/2025 10:39 AMTo step back and reflect on how every small action in our daily lives can impact in a big way if adopted by each one of us! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirHow did changing your dishwashing habits make you more mindful of water use? What other small changes can you make to conserve water in your household?
Pavit Thakkar 4/12/2025 1:15 PMI chnaged my dishwashing habit to once a day at the night. This helped me save water and electricity on running the machine twice a day and also running it on full loads reduced the amount of time i had to put in before and after as well.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money? What patterns did you notice in the food you threw away, and how can you address them?
Pavit Thakkar 4/11/2025 10:22 AMI’d rather use that $1,500 for something fun, like a family trip or saving for cool stuff. I noticed we throw away leftovers and food that went bad because we didn’t eat it in time. To fix that, we can plan meals better and only buy what we need. Also, we can eat leftovers before they get old. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirHow did shortening your showers affect your awareness of water conservation? What other water-saving practices can you adopt in your daily routine?
Pavit Thakkar 4/11/2025 10:15 AMShortening my showers made me realize how much water I was using without thinking. Before, I didn't really notice, but now I try to be quicker and not waste water just standing there. It made me more aware that water is important and we shouldn’t waste it.-
