Sachin's actions

Climate & Ecosystems

Plant a Tree

SDG 15

On average, a tree absorbs 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of carbon dioxide yearly during the first 20 years. To do my part, I will plant 30 trees in my community, public parks, or backyard.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Health & Equity

Practice Mindfulness

SDG 3

I will spend 15 minutes each day practicing mindfulness.

COMPLETED 17
DAILY ACTIONS

Basic Needs & Security

Calculate Your Water Footprint

SDG 6

I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Education & Livelihood

Stay on the Ground

SDG 11

Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally). As an example, a plane from New York to Los Angeles (~2,450 miles) generates about 65 tons of carbon dioxide.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Economy & Communities

Analyze Your Utility Bills

SDG 7

I spend 5 minutes analyzing my recent utility bills, which might include electricity, gas, or water to see what my current usage is and determine if I can reduce my energy and water use.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Basic Needs & Security

Watch a Documentary About Food, Water, or Basic Needs

SDG 6

I will watch 10 documentaries about food, water, or basic needs.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate & Ecosystems

Attend Emerson's Global Earth Week Webinar

On Wed 19th April, I will attend Emerson's Global Earth Week Webinar to learn about the importance of individual action in our collective journey to sustainability.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate & Ecosystems

Sign up to receive news on Sustainability at Emerson

I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY and WITH news.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate & Ecosystems

TAKE EMERSON'S SUSTAINABILITY TRAINING

I will take at least one of the Emerson Global Environmental Sustainability Training modules available on the Global Learning Center to learn more about this important topic for the company.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Basic Needs & Security

Reduce Animal Product Consumption

SDG 2

One kilogram of beef and cheese emits 71kg and 24kg of greenhouse gasses, while 1kg of rice, grains, and legumes emits between 2-4kg. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts emit less than 1kg per 1kg. I will reduce my climate impact by enjoying 1 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day this week.

COMPLETED 20
DAILY ACTIONS

Basic Needs & Security

Try a New Vegan or Vegetarian Recipe

I will try a new vegan or vegetarian recipe and share how it turns out on the Ecochallenge feed, or with family and friends.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Health & Equity

Spend Time Outside

SDG 3

I will replace 60 minute(s) per day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, or practicing gratitude for nature.

COMPLETED 19
DAILY ACTIONS

Health & Equity

Learn and Discuss The Health & Equity SDGs

SDG 3, 5, 10, 16

Each day, I will spend 30 minutes learning about these SDGs and talk with 30 people about what I learned.

COMPLETED 3
DAILY ACTIONS

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

I try meditation sitting idle with eyes closed and invariably various thoughts keep on coming....Post ecochallenge action tip on mindfulness, I started sleeping with flat back and head trying to imagine sensory movements of the body and voila...amazing experience!! Try it out and you might hear sounds that you won't hear otherwise, sense the inner organ movements and feel much fresher.

Using good old hankie instead of tissue papers could help, per person - CO2 reduction by approx 3 to 5 kgs/year and save one third of standard size tree...effectively in 3 years save 1 full tree.

Was able to convince my son to reduce hot shower time from roughly 7-8 mins to under 5 mins. Everyday he is challenged to finish bath while one of his favorite songs (<4 mins) is played. By now reduced 1.1 kg of CO2 emission (calc based on electric boiler) and hoping to reduce emissions by 105kg in a year.
