Personal

Share a Health or Well-being Resource

Sharing knowledge helps others nurture their well-being. Through social media, in the Ecochallenge feed, or in conversations, I will share 2 health or well-being resources with friends, family, or my community to promote a healthier, more resilient world.

COMPLETED 12
DAILY ACTIONS

Personal

Reduce Refined Sugar

Cutting back on refined sugar can improve energy, mood, and overall health. I will limit my intake of sugary snacks and drinks by reducing refined sugar in meals or snacks each day.

COMPLETED 15
DAILY ACTIONS

Personal

Go Get a Check Up

Regular health check-ups help prevent problems before they start. I will schedule or attend a medical, dental, or mental health check-up to take care of my well-being.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Take the Pre-Survey

Take the Pre-Event Survey

I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Personal

Explore Resources for Managing Anxiety

Anxiety can be overwhelming, but resources and strategies can help. I will spend 15 minutes exploring resources that help manage anxiety and stress to support my mental and psychological well being.

COMPLETED 13
DAILY ACTIONS

What is resilience?

Learn About Ordinary Magic

Resilience is an everyday magic in all of us. I will spend 30 minutes learning about resilience and psychologist Ann Masten’s concept of “ordinary magic,” which shows how people adapt and thrive through small, daily strengths.

COMPLETED 12
DAILY ACTIONS

What is resilience?

Reflect on My Own Resilience

Resilience is personal and collective. I will reflect on a time when I adapted to change in my own life, writing down what helped me and what I learned from the experience.

COMPLETED 14
DAILY ACTIONS

Water

Collect Rain Water

Rainwater collection reduces water waste and supports local needs. I will install a rain barrel or collect rainwater to use for outdoor tasks, such as watering plants or cleaning.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Water

Understand My Water Footprint

Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    What is resilience?
What personal strengths or supports helped you adapt to a past challenge? How might those same strengths help you in the future?

    Learning great things about resilience:

    Can resilience be taught?
Many factors that determine resilience—such as genetics, early life experiences, and luck—can’t be modified. But specific resilience-building skills can be learned. These include breaking out of negative thought cycles, pushing back against catastrophizing, and looking for upsides when faced with setbacks.

My daughter, my puppy , and I took a 2.5 hr. nature walk this weekend. We used the Seek's app on my phone to identify all of the flowers and trees we noticed on the way! We were able to identify over 75 species and earned the Badge "Biologist". I believe just being more aware of the nature around us, and teaching our children to do the same, makes a bigger impact than we realize!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water
What did you learn about your water footprint, and what changes felt most practical or surprising? How does this connect to resilience on a larger scale?

Personally using 1,260 gallons of water sounds ridiculous, and to see that's about 600 gallons of water under average is ridiculous, too. It's crazy how much water we use that we don't even think about! Like eating meat?! Who would have thought?

Still fasting everything but a protein shake a day. Fasting surgar for this long is actually a lot harder than I thought it would be!

Still fasting! going without sugar is harder than I thought!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    What is resilience?
What stood out to you about the idea of “ordinary magic”? How can one use a small, everyday strength to better handle a challenge this week?

I can start by working on my level of patience. Instead of focusing on an amount of workload, I can list 3-5 small, manageable actions I can get done today, instead of worrying that it will not all get done ever!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Personal
What resource or strategy stood out to you the most, and how could it help you strengthen your resilience when you face stress or uncertainty?

My daughter and I have these little flash cards that have different breathing techniques and funny little wake up and go to sleep exercises that we do multiple times a day. It helps us learn how to control our anxiety together.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Personal
Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now? What was the most challenging part of reducing refined sugar, and how did you overcome it?

I started fasting and I told my mind and body that they didn't have a choice. I have to fully surrender all food if I'm going to give something up. It's an all or nothing thing for me, mentally.
