Jenny's actions

Wildlife

Learn How to Save the Bees

Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spending 5 minutes learning about local pollinators and why they are so important.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Share My Why

Take the Earth Month Ecochallenge Feedback Survey

I will take a short survey about my experience to help the Ecochallenge team improve future events, earn a chance to win a prize, and earn 15 points!

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Wildlife

Protect Pollinators with a Plant or Mini-Habitat

Pollinators need a little help from their friends like us! I will take 1 steps to protect pollinators, such as planting a pollinator-friendly plant, installing a pollinator hotel, or by leaving leaf litter for pollinators to call home.

COMPLETED 5
DAILY ACTIONS

Health and Well-Being

Meditate

Meditation helps build resilience and clarity. I will spend 10 minutes each day to meditate or create a moment of silence each day to reflect on things important to me.

COMPLETED 29
DAILY ACTIONS

Community and Connection

Host a Gathering

Bringing people together helps strengthen bonds. I will organize and host a gathering, such as a potluck, coffee meet up, or shared meal, for friends, family, colleagues, or neighbors to foster connection and community spirit.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Wildlife

Enjoy a Meatless Meal

Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 1 meatless meals and/or 0 vegan meals each day.

COMPLETED 27
DAILY ACTIONS

Wildlife

Use Reusable Bags

Plastic bags do not always end up in landfills and if they aren't properly disposed of. In nature, they can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and harm wildlife. When I go shopping, I will be sure to bring my own bags to reduce waste and the chance that plastic bags could find their way into wildlife habitats.

COMPLETED 26
DAILY ACTIONS

Land, Water, and Air

Reduce Vehicle Idling

Idling cars wastes fuel, contributes to climate change, and pollutes the air in our communities. I will turn off my engine when waiting in my car to reduce air pollution and carbon emissions.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How did being mindful of vehicle idling change your perspective on fuel consumption and air quality? What other transportation habits can you adopt to reduce your environmental impact?

Interesting that the reflection question about idling my car asks about fuel consumption. I was focused on air quality; I did not even pay attention to any fuel changes. It has been really easy to turn my car off when I didn't really pay attention to how much I was idling especially during my lunch breaks. Added bonus, less noise pollution! I can hear the birds chirping better when my car engine isn't running.

How difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?

My grocery store now has an option to pick up groceries and bring your own reusable bags. I make sure I do not idle my car while waiting and I take care of a few echochallenge goals at once. Just by being mindful and taking a few simple steps to change our daily behaviors we can contribute to waste reduction.

Meatless meals are easy for me for breakfast. I have to put a little work into it for dinner especially. Pasta seems to be my go to for meatless dineers.

I find it easier to keep a ecochallenge journal throughout the month rather then jump online everytime i complete an action. makes logging my points exciting cause they really stack up when i enter in all my actions, especially the daily meditations and daily meatless breakfast.
