    • 11-DAY STREAK
Today, while researching regenerative agriculture practices that I can use in my backyard garden, I realized that I am already doing many of the steps. It is suggested that a focus on building healthy soil through no-till gardening, composting cover cropping, and diversifying plantings support soil health. I use mulching to cover the soil, composting to return nutrient-rich material to the soil, and sheet mulching with cardboard to prevent the need for tilling. Cool! I'm on the right track!

This is so exciting! So many people forget soil health while gardening, but it's super important. Well done!

    • 11-DAY STREAK
When I was learning about indigenous conservation efforts in the area where I live, I found that there is a conservation district and land trust that I can join. They promote volunteer work to conserve natural resources and keep air, water, soil, habitats, and working lands healthy. They are dedicated to promoting natural resource stewardship and ecosystem resilience.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money? What patterns did you notice in the food you threw away, and how can you address them?

I started a veggie stock freezer bag today. I am putting all of the veg scraps that I would normally throw away in a gallon-size freezer bag. When that is full, I will turn it into veg stock by adding herbs and water and boiling it for a few hours.

I joined this eco-challenge to help me be more mindful of the way I am moving through the world. I want to be more aware of my impact on the people around me and the flora, fauna, and the earth I am walking on. I have two acres of land that I am re-wilding and attempting to return to the state it was in before the white settlers arrived. I live on Salish land and want to be more conscious of that.
