Wildlife
Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 1 meatless meals and/or 0 vegan meals each day.
Land, Water, and Air
Conduct a Home Energy Audit
Reducing energy use helps protect the air and climate. I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy and reduce pollution.
Empowering the Next Generation
Learn About Indigenous Conservation Practices
Indigenous communities have stewarded ecosystems for generations through deep-rooted knowledge and connection to nature. I will spend 15 minutes exploring Indigenous conservation methods and reflecting on their role in fostering balance and equity with nature.
Wildlife
Learn the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace
Leave No Trace means enjoying nature responsibly by minimizing our impact and leaving the environment as we found it, or better. I will spend 10 minutes learning about the seven core principles to minimize my impact while enjoying the outdoors.
Health and Well-Being
Meditate
Meditation helps build resilience and clarity. I will spend 10 minutes each day to meditate or create a moment of silence each day to reflect on things important to me.
Wildlife
Learn about Native Species
The world is full of unique species that all play an important role in nature. I will spend 7 minutes learning what the native plants and wildlife are in my region.

As one of my challenges, I selected eating more vegetarian and vegan meals, so I've been trying more vegan foods. The other day I had some fantastic shiitake tacos from Mis Tacones, which I highly recommend! I also chose learning about native plants and wildlife, so I finally downloaded Merlin to help identify the birds that visit my yard. It's been so fun! Learning more about the different birds and how they got here has been really cool and makes me feel more connected to nature.
Here's a picture of the song sparrow that sings from my neighbor's shed, as well as one of the black capped chickadees that has chosen to nest in our old birdhouse! -

For the last week or so I've been planning our garden for this year; I'm learning more about how to use native species to support pollinators and other plants as well as to manage harmful insects, fungi, and the health of our soil. I need to find a better system for watering this year, if anyone has any tips!
