Kiley's actions
Land, Water, and Air
Collect Rain Water
Rainwater collection reduces water waste and supports gardens. I will install a rain barrel or collect rainwater to use for 1 outdoor tasks, such as watering plants or cleaning.
Land, Water, and Air
Reduce Food Waste
Wasting food also wastes water, energy, and resources. I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.
Health and Well-Being
Prepare for Extreme Weather
Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.
Health and Well-Being
Replace a Product
Small changes can make a big difference for health and sustainability. Using what I learned from auditing ingredients in the products I use, I will replace 1 toxic or harmful products I use with safer, eco-friendly alternatives.
Land, Water, and Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Knowing our carbon footprint is the first step to reducing it. I will calculate my carbon impact and identify lifestyle changes that could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment. I will share my commitments to lowering my impact on the feed.
Health and Well-Being
Audit Toxic Products in my Home
Many common products contain harmful chemicals. I will spend 5 minutes researching chemicals found in products I use, and I will make a list of products I'd like to replace with safer options.
Community and Connection
Host a Gathering
Bringing people together helps strengthen bonds. I will organize and host a gathering, such as a potluck, coffee meet up, or shared meal, for friends, family, colleagues, or neighbors to foster connection and community spirit.
Community and Connection
Attend a Local Event
Local events such as farmers' markets, festivals, or community meetings like town halls are great ways to feel part of a community. I will attend 1 community events to connect with others and learn more about my area.
Community and Connection
Check In with a Friend or Colleague
Staying connected strengthens relationships and boosts well-being. Each day, I will reach out to 10 friends or colleagues to check in, have a meaningful conversation, or offer support.
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags do not always end up in landfills and if they aren't properly disposed of. In nature, they can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and harm wildlife. When I go shopping, I will be sure to bring my own bags to reduce waste and the chance that plastic bags could find their way into wildlife habitats.
Wildlife
Learn How to Save the Bees
Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spending 5 minutes learning about local pollinators and why they are so important.
Wildlife
Plant (or Adopt) a Plant
Landscaping with native plants, gardening, and having plants inside can have benefits for nature and our health. I will plant or adopt a new plant or grow one from seeds and post a photo of it to the feed.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat did you do to prepare for extreme weather events? Share any tips or resources you found helpful in the feed!
Kiley Snook 4/23/2025 5:49 PMThere are not many extreme weather events in my area but I made a bag with essentials in case of a fire and a first aid kit for any injuries. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat product did you replace, and why was it important to you? How do you feel about making a small change for a healthier, more sustainable home?
Kiley Snook 4/23/2025 5:46 PMI got rid of my car air freshener and replaced the one in my room with a diffuser because of the harmful chemicals. This change was a good experience and it felt nice to do after learning that they have chemicals that can cause many health issues. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat surprised you most about the products you use in your home?
Kiley Snook 4/23/2025 5:36 PMI was surprised that laundry detergents, like tide pods, have caustic contents that can result in chemical burns. I was also very surprised that air fresheners, which I keep in my car, contain VOC's.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money? What patterns did you notice in the food you threw away, and how can you address them?
Kiley Snook 4/23/2025 5:23 PMI would rather use the money from food waste on important purchases like car insurance or groceries. During the whole day the only food I threw away was gum which I could change by bringing snacks instead of chewing gum. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhere in your life do you emit the most carbon? What change are you willing to make in your daily life to reduce this output?
Kiley Snook 4/23/2025 5:17 PMMy highest category in my carbon footprint is carbon footprint. I will try to drive less, biking more, and use less energy to reduce the output. -

Kiley Snook 4/17/2025 9:44 PMPollinators impact daily lives by contributing to food security, environmental health, plant pollination and reproduction, and overall helping crops. Some changes I can make to help pollinators would be to stop pesticide use by making sure plants I buy have not been treated with pesticides. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow did it feel to plant something, and what kind of gardening did you do (indoors, hydroponic, outside in a garden, etc)? What did you plant and where? Feel free to share a photo to the feed!
Kiley Snook 4/17/2025 9:40 PMI planted a new basil plant outside in my backyard. I found it nice to plant something new and contribute to small garden my family has. -
