This also keeps our pets safe from harm. I will spend 45 minutes learning about ways to ensure my pet’s behavior and care practices protect local wildlife and their ecosystems.

How did decluttering and donating items make you feel, both emotionally and physically?

It makes me feel so good! I'm getting rid of it and gaining space back in my home and someone else can benefit from it also. Plus it keeps it out of the landfill.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Well-Being
What did you notice about your thoughts or emotions during or after meditation? Did you find it easy or challenging to meditate?

I find it challenging to meditate. I do good with the breathing exercises where I count my inhale, hold it, exhale. I'm working on doing this for longer periods of time, but I do feel so much calmer and less anxious after doing this!

This is great! Will all stresses in Society - this is wonderful release. I too, am trying to do more meditation, but I totally agree - it takes some practice. Thank you for sharing your results. Very encouraging.

What was the most unexpected piece of trash that was picked up during your local cleanup effort? How does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?

I live in a very tourist heavy area so there is always interesting trash to be found. I think the most interesting thing I found this time was a random airpod. I didn't join a local clean up effort; I pick trash up every time I visit the beach. My wife was with me also picking up trash so I'm going to phrase the two of us as a community! It makes me feel good to remove plastics/trash from the beaches. I like to see how much I can get and then we will recycle what we can to try to keep it out of landfills.

I learned about the u'lei. This plant/flower can grow 10-20ft tall and have small white flowers that smell nice. Birds eat the fruit of flower and use the stalks for nests. If this plant were eradicated erosion around our cliffs would increase.

So far so good. I learned about Hawaii's native plants today. My favorite one that I learned about is the 'ulei. Pronounced u-lay. It's in the rose family and can grow up to 10 feet tall. Hawaiians used this for spears and digging tools. Small white flowers grow in clusters on this plant. Seeds can be used medicinally also!
