Jackie's actions
Land, Water, and Air
Join a Cleanup Effort
Working together to clean up public spaces helps the environment and builds community. I will participate in 1 community cleanup efforts in my neighborhood or local area.
Wildlife
Plant (or Adopt) a Plant
Landscaping with native plants, gardening, and having plants inside can have benefits for nature and our health. I will plant or adopt a new plant or grow one from seeds and post a photo of it to the feed.
Community and Connection
Support Local Businesses
Supporting local businesses helps keep communities vibrant and resilient. I will choose to shop at 1 local businesses or restaurants, with a focus on businesses owned by people of color, local farmers, or community members.
Health and Well-Being
Enjoy the Outdoors for 30 Minutes
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside, then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Health and Well-Being
Replace a Product
Small changes can make a big difference for health and sustainability. Using what I learned from auditing ingredients in the products I use, I will replace 1 toxic or harmful products I use with safer, eco-friendly alternatives.
Health and Well-Being
Learn About Emergency Preparedness
Being prepared can save lives during extreme weather. I will spend 10 minutes learning about the most common weather risks in my area and the steps I can take to stay safe, such as signing up for local alerts or identifying nearby shelters.
Community and Connection
KB Boosters Session with Kitsap Harvest
A virtual Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, April 23rd, featuring Ed Seal from Kitsap Harvest. This dedicated organization rescues surplus produce not only from farms but also from neighborhood yards and gardens, ensuring that fresh, local food reaches those who need it most. During this engaging session, you'll: ✅ Discover how Kitsap Harvest transforms local surplus into nourishment for our community. ✅ Learn how you can participate in volunteer opportunities, such as gleaning in neighborhood yards. ✅ Gain insights into the tangible impact of reducing food waste and promoting food security locally.
Community and Connection
Check In with a Friend or Colleague
Staying connected strengthens relationships and boosts well-being. Each day, I will reach out to 2 friends or colleagues to check in, have a meaningful conversation, or offer support.
Wildlife
Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 1 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Back at work today after a wonderful week of vacation, exploring our nation's capital - our days were full of monuments, memorials and museums. I'm meeting up with a friend/co-worker after work today to go for a long walk, and we're bringing trash bags to clean up our neighborhood along the way! Will update with a picture tomorrow! -

I’m really enjoying this challenge and realizing the immediate effects of paying special attention to individual daily impacts, like home products, idling vehicles, running water, kids that leave lights on or bedroom heaters running after leaving for school, lol. Looking forward to making a difference with you all!
