Amy's actions
Climate + Air
Low Carbon Diet
Carbon is emitted into the atmosphere in a variety of ways, including through the foods we eat and food we waste. I will learn about low carbon foods and replace higher carbon foods with them in my diet.
Action Track: Community
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.
Action Track: Community
Raise Awareness for the Conservation of Freshwater and Oceans
I will spend 30 minutes learning more about the importance of freshwater + ocean conservation, and how I can reduce my water use. I will share what I learn with people in person, on social media, and on the feed.
Action Track: Community
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Freshwater + Oceans
Dishwasher Efficiency
Hand washing dishes can use more energy and hot water than a dishwasher. To save water, I will use a dishwasher and scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading them into the dishwasher.
Freshwater + Oceans
Cooking Oil Disposal
Pouring cooking oil down the drain can cause damage to waterways and ecosystems. I will learn how to properly dispose of cooking oil to help support healthy ecosystems.
Land + Forests
Zero Waste Day
The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.
Action Track: Community
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Land + Forests
Advocate for Forest Protection
Using my voice can help create a more sustainable and just world. I will contact 4 local, regional, or national decision makers to advocate for public policy that protects forests and improves their ability to sequester carbon and nourish biodiversity.
Land + Forests
Explore My Area
When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 30 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Freshwater + Oceans
Low Water Gardening
Grass lawns are water-intensive and on average require about 30 percent of a household’s water consumption. Native plants are water-efficient and help maintain the balance and diversity of local ecosystems. I will plant native species with water-efficient plants to conserve water and improve the habitat, then post a photo on the feed to share.
Freshwater + Oceans
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Land + Forests
Regenerative Agriculture and Me
Regenerative agriculture focuses on farming and ranching in a way that supports life and restores the soil. I will spend 35 minutes learning about regenerative agriculture and find out if any nearby farms practice regenerative agriculture.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
When traveling, I will seek souvenirs that support local communities and do not cause harm to the environment or wildlife.
Action Track: Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 4 hours in my community.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Beauty and Personal Products
Beauty and personal products can create a lot of waste. I will spend 45 minutes learning about the beauty and body products I use to see if they are refillable or recyclable. If not, I will reach out to the manufacturer to advocate for those options.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Invest in Nature
A healthy world needs both our daily actions and support from larger systems. I will spend 30 minutes learning about how I can use my investments and savings to advance environmental sustainability.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
It's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Land + Forests
Choose Eco-Friendly Wood and Paper
Trees provide food and habitat for local wildlife species, shade our streets and homes, and help keep our air and water clean by capturing pollutants. Buying products that help protect forests makes a difference. I will only purchase wood, furniture, and paper products from ecologically certified sources such as Forest Stewardship Council.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Amy Smith 4/11/2024 5:29 AMNational Pet Day is a day dedicated to celebrating the joy and companionship that pets bring to our lives. It's a time to recognize the bond between humans and their furry, feathered, or scaly friends and to show appreciation for the unconditional love and happiness they provide. Whether you have a cat, dog, bird, fish, or any other type of pet, National Pet Day encourages you to pamper and spoil them a little extra today. Take them for a walk, give them some extra treats, or simply spend quality time together. It's also a great opportunity to consider adopting a pet from a shelter or rescue organization and giving a loving home to an animal in need. So, let's celebrate our beloved pets and all the ways they enrich our lives! 🐾🐶🐱🐰🐦🐢 #NationalPetDay I will post a few tips i found to be more pet eco friendly .Sharing my two boys Jack and Gizmo
Use compostable poo bags and buy biodegradable cat litter.Using compostable poo bags and biodegradable litter will significantly reduce the impact their plastic alternative products have on our environment.use corn cat litter that is water soluble so all of our cat waste is disposed of in our bio bubble, onsite
Use eco-friendly cleaning products that aren’t harmful to our environment and are non-toxic to your pets. try your best to avoid harsh chemicals where possible. Ecover natural cleaning products and Smoll laundry capsules.
Make your green space thrive for all wildlife, including your furry family members! There are many plants that pose no risk to dogs and still provide beautiful colours and textures to your garden and a varied habitat for other wildlife. For example, snapdragons, camellias, roses and sunflowers are just some of the flowers that are not toxic to dogs and cats.
Recycle and Reuse household items. Before you throw cardboard, loo roll tubes or plastic bottles in your household recycling, have you considered turning these into toys? Using loo roll tubes make great puzzle feeders and old cardboard boxes can be enjoyed as a destruction box for your dog or a safe place for your cat to curl up in. Plastic bottles can be turned into simple treat dispensers and paper bags used by rabbits as a foraging toy
Buy products with recyclable or compostable packaging and avoid plastic products where you can. It is more common for larger supermarkets to offer soft plastic recycling schemes. These schemes offer people the ability to save all of their soft plastics (such as dry pet food bags, carrier bags and crisp packets) and drop them off at a participating store to save them from ending up in landfill. These soft plastics get recycled and made into other products to avoid a huge amount of plastic waste polluting our planet.

Amy Smith 4/08/2024 3:52 AMHappy solar eclipse Monday..A solar eclipse is a breathtaking astronomical phenomenon where the Moon, in its orbit around Earth, passes between the Sun and our planet, casting a shadow on the Earth's surface. As the Moon obscures the Sun, it creates a mesmerizing display in the sky, turning day into an eerie twilight and revealing the Sun's outer atmosphere, the corona, in a stunning display of ethereal light. This rare event, witnessed by those lucky enough to be within the path of totality, evokes a sense of wonder and awe, reminding us of the cosmic dance of celestial bodies and our place in the vast universe. From ancient civilizations to modern-day astronomers, solar eclipses continue to captivate humanity's imagination, serving as a reminder of the beauty and mystery of the cosmo
