Diana's actions

Biodiversity and Wildlife

Donate to Support Wildlife

There are many amazing projects supporting wildlife and their habitats. I will choose a project or organization to support that helps species and habitats I care about and make a donation.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Personal

Exercise Daily

Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 30 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.

COMPLETED 26
DAILY ACTIONS

Community

Express Gratitude and Random Acts of Kindness

Small acts of kindness and gratitude can brighten someone's day and create a positive ripple effect. I will express gratitude to 2 people or perform 2 random acts of kindness to spread joy and connection.

COMPLETED 23
DAILY ACTIONS

What is resilience?

Share a Definition of Resilience

Sharing builds common understanding. I will share 2 definitions of resilience that resonate with me—through conversations, social media, or the event feed—to help others explore what resilience means.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Soil and Food

Learn How to Save Pollinators

Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spend 30 minutes learning how to support local pollinators and take at least one action—such as planting native flowers or avoiding pesticides—to help sustain resilient ecosystems and harvests.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Personal

Explore Resources for Managing Anxiety

Anxiety can be overwhelming, but resources and strategies can help. I will spend 20 minutes exploring resources that help manage anxiety and stress to support my mental and psychological well being.

COMPLETED 14
DAILY ACTIONS

Water

Save Water When Washing Dishes

Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

COMPLETED 14
DAILY ACTIONS

What is resilience?

Learn About Ordinary Magic

Resilience is an everyday magic in all of us. I will spend 15 minutes learning about resilience and psychologist Ann Masten’s concept of “ordinary magic,” which shows how people adapt and thrive through small, daily strengths.

COMPLETED 10
DAILY ACTIONS

Take the Pre-Survey

Take the Pre-Event Survey

I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Personal

Go Get a Check Up

Regular health check-ups help prevent problems before they start. I will schedule or attend a medical, dental, or mental health check-up to take care of my well-being.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Water

Create My Own Water Action

Everyone’s water needs and use are different. I will create an action that works for my life and supports water resilience—and make my commitment public by sharing it in the feed to inspire others.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Community

Host a Gathering

Bringing people together helps strengthen bonds. I will organize and host a gathering, such as a potluck, coffee meet up, or shared meal, for friends, family, colleagues, or neighbors to foster connection and community spirit.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Soil and Food

Grow Something to Eat

Growing food builds resilience by connecting us to the soil and reducing reliance on long supply chains. I will grow edible plants—such as herbs, vegetables, or grains—in my home, balcony, or community space, strengthening both my food security and local biodiversity.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Biodiversity and Wildlife

Choose Native Plants

Native plants provide food and shelter for local wildlife and help ecosystems adapt to change. I will choose native plants for my yard, balcony, or community space instead of non-native or ornamental species to support biodiversity resilience.

That's a wrap! Excited to conclude this journey with a rebalancing yoga session with Adriene 😌🧘‍♀️

This challenge was more demanding than I thought, but also more educational.

This community and progress sharing was the best part! 💞 Thanks to everyone for sharing, persisting, experimenting and supporting each other.

    From leaf to tree journey

Around 7 years ago I took a chance and planted a last surviving leaf from dying Jade plant, having no hopes whatsoever. The plant on your left is how it evolved 💚

At the start of this April challenge I took a leap of faith and planted another leaf (which I accidentally broke during cleaning).

Looks like we may have another tree on the way 🥹 (image on the right)

This is so beautiful, Diana! A great reminder that plants are resilient. And I'm totally with you - I always try to re-root a leaf or cutting even when it seems like there's no hope lol!

3 week progress update - dill is emerging! Feeling hopeful 😊🤞

Thyme is not doing so well 😔 (bottom image) temperature, light and water all the same, but barely any sprouts.

Any tips or guidance appreciated (or maybe I just need to have more patience 🙈)

I stumbled across this Nest at my local garden centre and loved the concept behind it!

It is an ornamental use for what is seen as waste, a by-product of pruning and storm damage.

The woody ‘waste’ is often tricky to dispose of in gardens and is often burnt, which releases stored carbon into the atmosphere and bypasses the opportunity to create valuable habitat.

Instead, this "nest" creates horticultural microclimates and provides shelter to wildlife.🪲🐜🐞

What motivated you to schedule or attend your check-up, and how did it make you feel afterward that you completed this action?

    Diana Smirnova 4/24/2026 11:15 AM
This challenge actually gave me a boost to schedule a check up! (Plus I needed one for a while, so win-win) .

I've been postponing a visit to the hygienist for a while, consistently pushing back the reminders. So felt really good to tick this off the list 💪🦷

At last! Made a trip to a local garden centre to get started on the Nectar Cafe for pollinators. 🦋

Whilst I did my research on which plants are good, seeing hundreds of choices was overwhelming.

🐝See that little yellow bee sign? Luckily this garden centre has a special label for plants that are suitable for pollinators, making it a bit easier.

Excited to make some new colourful friends soon.😊

    Have you heard of plogging?

I haven't until today. It's basically a Swedish fitness trend combining jogging with picking up litter (full article below).

With around 2M pieces of litter dropped around the UK every single day, this could be one way to tackle it. 🤔

that 2 million pieces of litter stat is insane. plogging honestly sounds like a super practical way to actually do something about it. love the idea of leaving a place better than you found it
