Exercise Daily

Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 40 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.

COMPLETED 3

Wildlife

Plant (or Adopt) a Plant

Landscaping with native plants, gardening, and having plants inside can have benefits for nature and our health. I will plant or adopt a new plant or grow one from seeds and post a photo of it to the feed.

ONE-TIME ACTION

Wildlife

Protect Pollinators with a Plant or Mini-Habitat

Pollinators need a little help from their friends like us! I will take 5 steps to protect pollinators, such as planting a pollinator-friendly plant, installing a pollinator hotel, or by leaving leaf litter for pollinators to call home.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Sustainable Innovation

Share a Sustainable Innovation Discovery!

Innovation thrives when we share ideas. I will share 3 sustainable innovation discoveries on social media or in the Ecochallenge feed to inspire others to explore creative solutions.

Sharing my Sustainable Innovation: I love to light candles in my home and noticed that whenever the wick ran out there was always a good amount of wax left at the bottom. After realizing how not cheap candles were I could not bring myself to throw away this wax. So I began saving the candles, melting the wax on the stove and making new candles with all of the wax I collected. I think they always still smell nice after even though I mix different scents, a bonus is they smell even better when I am melting them. All you need is a pack of wicks (hobby lobby) and some glue!

Since I was little I have had a passion for gardening and the outdoors. As a baby, my favorite thing to do was “go to the plant store;" I asked to go every. single. day. What I wanted most from the plant store...a container of ladybugs. My parents never caved (but my Grandma sure did). I let them crawl all over me, it was the best day ever! After that, I started gardening with my grandfather, and “pots, plants, and dirt” became regular requests on my birthday and Christmas lists.
That intrinsic love for the earth has only grown stronger with time. As I’ve gotten older, I recognize how important it is to protect and care for our planet. I joined this challenge to learn what others have to share about their passions and new tips for giving back to the planet!

I recently planted a variety of native Texas wildflowers to support local pollinators with a source of nectar. While I’m not sure if they’ll bloom this year, I’m hopeful they’ll return and flourish in seasons to come.

That's amazing! I learned a lot more about pollinators last year in a webinar I had local educators come and speak on. I had no idea Flies are pollinators too! Still can't spread the love like I do for the bees. Great job. Hope it blooms.
