  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
What surprised you most about your water footprint, and how did it influence your perspective on water use? What changes can you make to reduce your water consumption, and how will these impact your daily routine?

Change my diet: Reducing the consumption of water-intensive foods, like beef, and increasing plant-based options would make a significant difference. This would mean planning meals more consciously and maybe experimenting with more vegetarian or plant-forward recipes.
Be more mindful of water during daily activities: Shortening showers, turning off the tap while brushing teeth, and fixing leaks around the house are simple but effective ways to directly reduce water waste. I might also collect rainwater for outdoor use or opt for water-efficient appliances.
Reduce clothing purchases: Since clothing production (especially cotton) uses a lot of water, I could focus on buying fewer, higher-quality items that last longer, and choose clothing made from sustainable materials.
Conserve water in the garden: Opting for drought-resistant plants and using water-efficient irrigation systems could help reduce water use outdoors, especially in areas with water scarcity.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
Where in your life do you emit the most carbon? What change are you willing to make in your daily life to reduce this output?

    • 17-DAY STREAK
Reducing energy use at home: Turning off lights when not in use, using energy-efficient appliances, and switching to renewable energy sources like solar can help lower the carbon footprint of your household.
Dietary adjustments: Reducing meat and dairy consumption, especially beef and lamb, which have higher carbon footprints, can be an impactful step. Opting for more plant-based meals can help reduce emissions associated with food production.
Minimizing waste: Reducing, reusing, and recycling materials (especially plastics) can help lower emissions from landfills and waste management.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
What water justice issues did you learn about, and who is most affected in your community? How can you contribute to creating equitable access to clean water in your area?

Support local advocacy organizations: Get involved with or donate to organizations working on water justice and infrastructure improvement in your community. They often advocate for policy changes, better regulation, and funding for communities in need.
Raise awareness: Educate yourself and others about local water issues and the importance of access to clean water. Hosting community meetings, social media campaigns, or school projects can highlight the issue.
Conserve water: By reducing your own water consumption, you contribute to a more sustainable system overall. Encourage others to conserve as well, especially in areas where water scarcity is a concern.
Lobby for policy change: Advocate for better water infrastructure investments, clean water laws, and equitable distribution of resources in local government meetings or through petitions.
Support local clean-up efforts: Participate in community-based efforts to clean up local water sources, which can reduce pollution and prevent contamination from spreading.

Pretty great, actually. There’s a relief that comes with just knowing—whether everything’s good or there’s something to follow up on, at least you’re not in the dark anymore. There’s also a weird kind of pride in checking it off your list, like, “Okay, I’m being a responsible adult today.”
It’s one of those self-care things that isn’t glamorous but really matters.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife
How did your experience go in trying an action to Leave No Trace? Did you notice others doing the same, or not? From a perspective of having empathy for others, why might people not adhere to the Leave No Trace principles?
