Prioritize Getting Enough Sleep

Good sleep is essential for a healthy body and mind. I will prioritize getting 30 minutes of quality sleep each night and develop a bedtime routine that supports rest and relaxation.

Take the Pre-Event Survey

I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Personal

Enjoy Fruits and Veggies

Eating a wide variety of colorful fruits and vegetables is a simple way to boost our personal health and support a more resilient food system. I will prepare and enjoy 4 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.

Water

Understand My Water Footprint

Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Water

Learn to Recycle Water at Home

Greywater—or lightly used household water—can sometimes be reused for tasks like watering plants or cleaning. I will learn about safe and practical ways to recycle greywater at home, school, or work.

Water

Take Shorter Showers

Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!

COMPLETED 16
DAILY ACTIONS

What is resilience?

Explore Resilience in Nature

Resilience is all around us in the natural world. I will spend 30 minutes outdoors looking for examples of resilience—such as plants regrowing, animals adapting, or seasonal cycles—and reflect on what they teach about thriving through change.

COMPLETED 12
DAILY ACTIONS

Soil and Food

Learn How to Save Pollinators

Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spend 15 minutes learning how to support local pollinators and take at least one action—such as planting native flowers or avoiding pesticides—to help sustain resilient ecosystems and harvests.

    Eco Challenge Reflection

I spent this eco challenge focussing on improving my personal health. I wanted to get more sleep, eat healthier and get outside in nature more. The biggest difference I have noticed is my adjusted sleep patterns, especially not feeling like I need to majorly sleep in at the weekend!

I also focussed on reducing my water usage, taking shorter showers. This started because I took a water usage quiz and was SHOCKED at the amount I would use over a year. If we all do a small part it makes a big difference!

So glad you've been seeing improvements! I've also had some shocking realizations, but that means this challenge is working and awareness is growing.

Hope you are able to carry these habits into May and beyond 💚

So proud! I also started shifting my sleep and prioritizing it really has made a difference in also helping me take more time to give back to myself vs getting up to early to get the day started!

I decided early that a big focus for me would be to prioritise my sleep as I've felt so sluggish and tired lately. I have been consistently going to bed earlier and feeling so much better. It's a good reminder that we need to take care of ourselves so we can function at our best.

    Water
What did you learn about your water footprint, and what changes felt most practical or surprising? How does this connect to resilience on a larger scale?

It was very interesting to learn how much water I was using and has motivated me to take shorter showers where possible!

Hey everyone! I'm a day late but excited to join this ecochallenge. I did this last year and it helped me learn more about reducing waste so I'm keen to see what I'll learn this time!
