I taught my daughter how to speak up politely about using less plastic at school. They felt proud and even shared the idea with friends. Empowering kids builds confident voices—and that ripple can spark real change in the community.

Being mindful of idling made me realize how much fuel we waste just sitting still. Now i activated the auto turn off feature in my car when waiting and try to walk or carpool more—it’s better for the air and my conscience.

I have a friend who owns a small restaurant back in home country. I spoke to him and asked him to message a few restaurants about switching to eco-friendly packaging—some were open to it, others just unaware. They have pledge to take some action and actively looking for alternate options. I was surprised that a small action helped to start a change .
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
What did you discover during your energy audit that you weren’t aware of before? What steps will you take to reduce energy use, and how will they benefit both the environment and your household?

    Sachin Sethuram 4/30/2025 1:03 AM
Using the DEWA bill app and inhouse meter readings, I discovered that many of our devices were still drawing power even when turned off—something called "phantom energy." I learned that these standby appliances can account for up to 10% of a household’s electricity use. I was shocked to see how much our TV setup, microwave, and chargers were quietly consuming. To reduce this, I’ve started unplugging unused devices and using smart power strips. I’m also switching to LED bulbs, which use about 75% less energy and last 25 times longer than traditional incandescent ones. These small steps will lower our energy bill and reduce our household emissions—helping both the environment and our wallet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife
How difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?

    Sachin Sethuram's avatar
    Sachin Sethuram 4/30/2025 12:58 AM
At first, avoiding plastic bags felt like a small inconvenience—I'd often forget my cloth bags or grab plastic out of habit. But with a bit of mindfulness and preparation, it quickly became second nature. I keep always a reusable bag or close bags in my car to keep it easy access.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife
What actions can you take to ensure your pets do not harm local wildlife? How does being a responsible pet owner contribute to the well-being of both your pets and the environment?

    Sachin Sethuram 4/30/2025 12:56 AM
To ensure my pets don’t harm local wildlife, I keep them supervised outdoors, especially during walks or playtime. I avoid letting my community cat roam freely. I also clean up after them to prevent waste from entering local ecosystems. Being a responsible pet owner not only keeps my pets safe and healthy, but it also protects native species and maintains the balance of the environment.
