Janet Serrano 4/30/2023 9:10 AMBefore the Eco Challenge was announced, I signed up for the WWF Earth Hour Virtual Run 2023 and committed to finish 60km for one month. I have not been very active physically during the pandemic and I needed a boost, so I signed up. I added this to my Eco Challenge actions so I am reminded every day. Happy to share that I completed the 60km today.

Janet Serrano 4/30/2023 8:59 AMToday is the last day. I will miss the daily check-ins and the fun banter we have in the office, us challenging one another to complete our daily commitments. I am thankful to have joined and if there’s one I learned from this experience, small actions matter and inspire us to do better. I have developed my new habit of 5-min daily mindfulness and I hope to continue doing this, among other energy-saving activities. Shout out to everyone who participated and cannot wait for the next one!-

REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & Communities Analyze Your Utility BillsWhat was the most interesting thing you learned from analyzing your utility bill? What are some ways you can save energy and water?
Janet Serrano 4/27/2023 9:32 PMSimilar to my other post, my monthly utility bill is relatively low. I do see a spike during summer months due to increase in air conditioning which I time so I can manage usage. I use a dark curtain which helps manage heat coming inside the house (I hope!). I also don’t use shower heater during these warm months as one way to save. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & Communities Online Energy AuditWhat most interested or surprised you about your energy audit?
Janet Serrano 4/27/2023 9:26 PMMy monthly energy consumption is relatively low. However during summer months I see a slight spike due to more hours of air conditioning. I do use a timer so I can manage usage better. I hope to save from very minimal use of shower heater.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & Security Volunteer in My CommunityWhat was one of your most memorable volunteer experiences, and why? What would you like to volunteer for next, and why?
Janet Serrano 4/22/2023 3:51 AMI joined Habitat for Humanity activities few years ago. I remember cleaning up houses and helped paint newly constructed ones. I am currently active with our Community team in the office where we visit orphanages. This weekend I supported our Sustainability team for a tree planting activity. All these activities fill my heart with gratefulness to be able to give back.-

Monalyn Esmenda 4/23/2023 4:43 PMMy very first tree planting at Mt. Purro last April 21. I have made new friends, talked to Dumagats, ate food cooked in bamboo stems, stood beside Mr. Toto Malvar, tried to make fire using bamboo and planted narra seedlings. :) -

REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & Security Watch a Documentary About Food, Water, or Basic NeedsWhat did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentaries you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?
Janet Serrano 4/07/2023 12:46 AMI saw a post about the International Carrot Day. Apparently it was celebrated these past week. I learned its history and varieties. It used to be purple! I hope to be able to add carrots in my tiny garden as it’s one of my staple favorites. -
