August's actions
Take the Pre-Survey
Take the Pre-Event Survey
I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)
Personal
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 10 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.
Community
Support Local Businesses
Supporting local businesses helps keep communities vibrant and resilient. I will choose to shop at 1 local businesses or restaurants, with a focus on businesses owned by people of color, local farmers, or community members.
Community
Swap and Share with Others
Swapping and sharing resources reduces waste and builds community bonds. I will participate in 1 swaps or sharing activities, like borrowing items, attending or hosting a swap meet, or giving away items I no longer need to support a sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Soil and Food
Learn How to Save Pollinators
Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spend 15 minutes learning how to support local pollinators and take at least one action—such as planting native flowers or avoiding pesticides—to help sustain resilient ecosystems and harvests.
Personal
Prepare for Extreme Weather
Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.
Personal
Go Get a Check Up
Regular health check-ups help prevent problems before they start. I will schedule or attend a medical, dental, or mental health check-up to take care of my well-being.
Community
Host a Gathering
Bringing people together helps strengthen bonds. I will organize and host a gathering, such as a potluck, coffee meet up, or shared meal, for friends, family, colleagues, or neighbors to foster connection and community spirit.
Community
Offer a Skill or Service
Sharing our talents can benefit those around us. I will offer my skills or services that contribute to local self-sufficiency, such as teaching a repair skill or helping with a neighbor's garden.
What is resilience?
Share a Resilience Story
Stories connect and inspire us. I will share 2 resilience stories—either from my life, my community, or from a leader or culture I admire—through conversations, social media, or the event feed to help others see resilience in action.
Community
Take Part in a Community Beautification Project
Working together builds resilience and pride in the places we care about. I will participate in 1 community projects such as a cleanup or local beautification project that strengthens connections and shared purpose.
Soil and Food
Grow Something to Eat
Growing food builds resilience by connecting us to the soil and reducing reliance on long supply chains. I will grow edible plants—such as herbs, vegetables, or grains—in my home, balcony, or community space, strengthening both my food security and local biodiversity.
Soil and Food
Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 2 meatless meals meals each day.
Community
Join a Group
Belonging to a group can help build friendships and a sense of purpose. I will explore online or in-person groups or clubs that share my interests or goals and join a group to connect with others.
What is resilience?
Share a Definition of Resilience
Sharing builds common understanding. I will share 2 definitions of resilience that resonate with me—through conversations, social media, or the event feed—to help others explore what resilience means.
Water
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Mulching helps soil hold water and reduces runoff. I will mulch the base of trees or other plants at home, school, or in my community to improve water retention and soil health.
Work and Organizations
Map Local Risks and Resources
Preparedness is part of resilience. I will spend 30 minutes with colleagues identifying potential risks (such as weather, supply chain, or staffing issues) and the resources or strategies available to address them.
Biodiversity and Wildlife
Choose Native Plants
Native plants provide food and shelter for local wildlife and help ecosystems adapt to change. I will choose native plants for my yard, balcony, or community space instead of non-native or ornamental species to support biodiversity resilience.
Water
Take Shorter Showers
Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!
Personal
Reduce Refined Sugar
Cutting back on refined sugar can improve energy, mood, and overall health. I will limit my intake of sugary snacks and drinks by reducing refined sugar in meals or snacks each day.
Water
Create My Own Water Action
Everyone’s water needs and use are different. I will create an action that works for my life and supports water resilience—and make my commitment public by sharing it in the feed to inspire others.
Share My Why
Take the Earth Month Ecochallenge Feedback Survey
I will take a short survey about my experience to help the Ecochallenge team improve future events, earn a chance to win a prize, and earn 15 points!
Biodiversity and Wildlife
Leave the Leaves
Fallen leaves, logs, and brush provide shelter and food for wildlife. I will leave natural features in my yard or community space to help strengthen biodiversity and soil resilience.
Share My Why
Share My Why
I will share my Ecochallenge story and why I'm taking action for the planet — and earn 15 points!
Biodiversity and Wildlife
Speak Up for Wildlife Protection
Wildlife needs support from people. I will take 1 actions, such as volunteering, signing petitions, contacting leaders, or sharing information on social media, to help protect habitats and species.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWork and OrganizationsWhat risks or resources did you identify? How might this knowledge help your group respond better in times of change?
August Schneider 4/30/2026 6:05 PMpower outages is a big one that can affect many things at our job. we have things that need to be kept at certain temps and without proper ventilation it can be very unsafe to preform our work. we have a generator but cant hook everything up to it. we can rearrange things in fridges and freezers to ensure things stay cool and many of us know what will be ok getting a little warm. we know where the flashlights are and what can be done safely without power. this means the next time power goes out due to a large storm we will all be able to respond quickly and together without bumbling around -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity and WildlifeWhy is raising your voice important for resilience, and how can public support strengthen protections for wildlife?
August Schneider 4/30/2026 5:56 PM- Tree Lover 🌲
Sharing important and digestible information and easy action steps is the best way to get more people involved. Mass movements even with many people that are half there tend to have a bigger impact than a few very devoted individuals. we have to be a crowd to produce change. sharing information and signing petitions are easy steps that I took and will continue to take. I can't personally do everything but I can sure yell about it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSoil and FoodWhat did you learn about the role of pollinators in food systems? Did you take any action to support pollinators? If so, share a picture in the feed!
August Schneider 4/30/2026 5:04 PM- Tree Lover 🌲
Bees like plants with lots of small flowers because that's their food source. Flowers that are single have less food for bees and are typically not their native food source. Planting lots of native flowering plants in your yard is just the start. getting more flowering plants throughout the city to create food paths for them is also important. we can do this by seed bombing and planting on boulevards. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWhat is resilience? What definition of resilience did you choose to share, and why? How did others respond to it, and did it spark any new insights for you?
August Schneider 4/30/2026 4:27 PM- Tree Lover 🌲
I shared a few but the one I talked about most is getting back up and trying again when you fail or make a mistake. The speed at which you can get back up is the biggest thing that shows your resilience. Having a snack or working on something else to reset your mind -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat personal action did you create, and why does it matter to you?
August Schneider 4/30/2026 4:19 PM- Tree Lover 🌲
I conserved water by reusing grey water and only flushing the toilet after going number 2 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat was the most rewarding part of bringing people together for a gathering? Did you experience any challenges in hosting, and if so, how did you overcome them?
August Schneider 4/30/2026 4:09 PM- Tree Lover 🌲
I'm always surprised by the amount of energy food prep requires. If anyone has any tricks for easy food prep please let me know. I had a great time bonding with my brother and mom. It's amazing how much quality time can help you connect -

REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity and WildlifeWhat native plants did you choose, and how do they support wildlife in your area? Share a photo in the feed!
August Schneider 4/28/2026 6:51 PM- Tree Lover 🌲
I planted echinacea and coreopsis. They support local pollinators. they have not flowered yet so no pictures it's not warm enough in MN to plant much earlier than I did.
