Olivia's actions
Empowering the Next Generation
Listen to Youth
Youth voices matter and deserve to be heard. I will spend 10 minutes actively listening to and learning from young people about concerns, ideas, or experiences about environmental issues, either through conversations, speeches, or media.
Empowering the Next Generation
Support Youth Climate Activists
Youth activists are leading the charge for a better world. I will spend 10 minutes learning about or supporting youth climate activists through sharing their work or attending their events.
Empowering the Next Generation
Support a Youth-Led Project
Youth-led projects drive innovation and change. I will support youth-led environmental projects by offering time, resources, or encouragement and share how I supported youth on the Ecochallenge feed.
Health and Well-Being
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Environmental issues often impact marginalized communities the most. I will spend 20 minutes researching environmental justice concerns in my region, who is affected by them, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Health and Well-Being
Prepare for Extreme Weather
Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.
Health and Well-Being
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 30 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.
Land, Water, and Air
Learn About Water Justice
Access to clean water is a basic right, yet not everyone has it. I will spend 15 minutes learning about water justice issues and who is affected.
Land, Water, and Air
Join a Cleanup Effort
Working together to clean up public spaces helps the environment and builds community. I will participate in 1 community cleanup efforts in my neighborhood or local area.
Land, Water, and Air
Take Shorter Showers
Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!
Wildlife
Learn to be a Responsible Tourist
Being a responsible tourist means not disturbing wildlife and choosing eco-friendly tour operators and destinations that prioritize wildlife conservation and respect animal welfare. I will spend 10 minutes researching ways to travel responsibly to ensure my adventures support, rather than harm, wildlife and their habitats.
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags do not always end up in landfills and if they aren't properly disposed of. In nature, they can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and harm wildlife. When I go shopping, I will be sure to bring my own bags to reduce waste and the chance that plastic bags could find their way into wildlife habitats.
Wildlife
Learn How to Save the Bees
Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spending 10 minutes learning about local pollinators and why they are so important.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEmpowering the Next GenerationWhat impressed you most about the youth-led project you supported, and how did your involvement help?
Olivia Sandler 4/23/2025 1:08 PMWhat impressed me most about Greta Thunberg’s Fridays for Future movement is how organized and powerful young people can be when they unite for a cause. Their dedication and ability to lead global strikes showed me that age doesn’t limit impact. By sharing their message and raising awareness, I helped spread their call for urgent climate action to more people. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEmpowering the Next GenerationWhat perspectives or ideas did you hear from young people, and how did they challenge or expand your understanding of environmental issues? Did anything surprise you that they had to say?
Olivia Sandler 4/23/2025 1:05 PMGreta Thunberg made me see how urgent and serious climate change really is. She showed that young people are informed, passionate, and unafraid to speak the truth. I was surprised by how clearly she called out world leaders and made climate change feel personal and unfair for her generation.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONEmpowering the Next GenerationWhat did you learn about the youth climate activists you supported, and how do their efforts inspire you?
Olivia Sandler 4/23/2025 1:03 PMI learned about Greta Thunberg, who gained attention for her “Fridays for Future” movement, where she went on strike at school to demand stronger action on climate change. Her efforts inspired me not only because of her age but also because Greta has spoken at numerous global forums, including the United Nations, and continues to inspire millions of young people worldwide to take action against climate change. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat did you learn about how tourism impacts wildlife, and how can you make more conscious choices when planning a trip? How do you think your travel decisions can contribute to wildlife conservation and respectful interactions with nature?
Olivia Sandler 4/21/2025 9:07 AMAfter learning about the harmful effects of tourism, I learned that wildlife are harmed by tourists disrupting their habitats and encouraging unethical practices like animal shows or feeding them. Something I can do is travel more responsibly and make sure to avoid attractions that exploit animals. These decisions can support conservation efforts and protect animals in the wild. My travel choices can help preserve wildlife and promote more respectful interactions with nature. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow do pollinators impact your daily life, and what changes can you make to ensure they continue to thrive?
Olivia Sandler 4/21/2025 9:03 AMPollinators impact my daily life mainly by supporting food production and giving nutrients to all the food I eat. Also by helping other plants reproduce giving biodiversity in an ecosystem. A change I can make is to make sure not to use toxic fertilizers or chemicals on the plants I have in my home since they are toxic to pollinators. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Olivia Sandler 4/21/2025 8:55 AMThis challenge was pretty easy for me since this is a choice I practice regularly. My mom taught me to always bring bags with you or leave reuseable ones in the car in case of grocery shopping. Even if I forget, I don't pay the price of spending 10c to have plastic that will probably risk the chance of polluting the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat was the most unexpected piece of trash that was picked up during your local cleanup effort? How does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?
Olivia Sandler 4/16/2025 11:17 AMI went for a run with my friend and decided to bring a small bag with us to collect trash on the beach. The most interesting thing I picked up was a bendy straw that was bright green. It made me feel good working with others but even better knowing I was helping my community in some way. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat water justice issues did you learn about, and who is most affected in your community? How can you contribute to creating equitable access to clean water in your area?
Olivia Sandler 4/16/2025 11:14 AMIn San Diego, water justice issues like high water rates, drought, and pollution near the border disproportionately affect low-income and marginalized communities. I can help by raising awareness, supporting conservation efforts, and advocating for equitable water access through school and local organizations. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirHow did shortening your showers affect your awareness of water conservation? What other water-saving practices can you adopt in your daily routine?
Olivia Sandler 4/16/2025 11:11 AMShortening my showers affected my awareness of water conservation by showing me I can conserve and save money taking less time on something I usually did for an extended amount of time. I can turn off the water when im brushing my teeth. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat did you do to prepare for extreme weather events? Share any tips or resources you found helpful in the feed!
Olivia Sandler 4/15/2025 2:48 PMI took a premade safety first aid kit and added items to it to specifically prepare for the event of a wildfire. I added a flashlight with a set of batteries and cotton shirt to use as a mask.-
