Community and Connection
Join your local Green Team or participate in an Earth Month activity organized by them
Get involved! Join your local Green Team to connect and work on local sustainability initiatives. Or, participate in one of the many Earth Month activities they've organized.
Land, Water, and Air
Begin a meeting with a “Sustainability Moment”
Kick off your meetings with a "Sustainability Moment" to keep environmental awareness top of mind. Even better, develop new "Sustainability Moments" tailored to your specific location and work, making the connection between sustainability and your daily activities even stronger!
Land, Water, and Air
Take Shorter Showers
Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags do not always end up in landfills and if they aren't properly disposed of. In nature, they can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and harm wildlife. When I go shopping, I will be sure to bring my own bags to reduce waste and the chance that plastic bags could find their way into wildlife habitats.
Community and Connection
Support Local Businesses
Supporting local businesses helps keep communities vibrant and resilient. I will choose to shop at 2 local businesses or restaurants, with a focus on businesses owned by people of color, local farmers, or community members.
Sustainable Innovation
Conduct a Plastics Audit
Reducing plastic use starts with awareness, and there are amazing innovations in materials to replace plastic! I will conduct an audit of the plastic products I use daily and identify items I can replace with sustainable alternatives.
Land, Water, and Air
Reduce Vehicle Idling
Idling cars wastes fuel, contributes to climate change, and pollutes the air in our communities. I will turn off my engine when waiting in my car to reduce air pollution and carbon emissions.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONSustainable InnovationWhat surprised you most about the amount or types of plastic you use daily? What sustainable alternatives are you excited to try, and how do you think they’ll reduce your plastic waste?
Rogelio Sanchez 4/01/2025 9:01 AMI realized that virtually all the products I use have plastic packaging, so the amount of waste generated is massive. The alternative is to use glass containers that allow us to eliminate the use of plastic containers. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Rogelio Sanchez 4/01/2025 8:57 AMIt was difficult to remember to always have a reusable bag with you. Once you get used to it, it's a small change, but it has a big impact. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirHow did being mindful of vehicle idling change your perspective on fuel consumption and air quality? What other transportation habits can you adopt to reduce your environmental impact?
Rogelio Sanchez 4/01/2025 8:55 AMEvery time I start the car, I realize that we must take care of the quality of the air we breathe and that I'm saving money and helping to achieve this at the same time. Another habit I can adopt is walking when the distance is short to avoid using the car. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirHow did shortening your showers affect your awareness of water conservation? What other water-saving practices can you adopt in your daily routine?
Rogelio Sanchez 4/01/2025 8:50 AMIt makes us realize the actual time it takes to shower and how that small change translates into less waste of water. An alternative practice is to collect shower water in a bucket for other uses, such as watering plants.
