Work and Organizations
Support Local or Minority-Owned Businesses
Purchasing choices can strengthen community resilience. I will direct 5 of my organization’s purchases or events toward local or minority-owned businesses, helping build diverse and resilient economies.
What is resilience?
Learn About Ecological Resilience
Resilience is part of how nature works. I will spend 10 minutes learning about ecological resilience—how ecosystems adapt to disturbances and renew themselves through cycles of growth and renewal.
Personal
Enjoy Fruits and Veggies
Eating a wide variety of colorful fruits and vegetables is a simple way to boost our personal health and support a more resilient food system. I will prepare and enjoy 2 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
Biodiversity and Wildlife
Speak Up for Wildlife Protection
Wildlife needs support from people. I will take 2 actions, such as volunteering, signing petitions, contacting leaders, or sharing information on social media, to help protect habitats and species.
Biodiversity and Wildlife
Reduce Light Pollution
Too much artificial light can confuse and harm animals, especially those active at night. I will reduce sources of outdoor light or switch to wildlife-friendly fixtures to support healthy habitats.
Water
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Soil and Food
Learn How to Save Pollinators
Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spend 15 minutes learning how to support local pollinators and take at least one action—such as planting native flowers or avoiding pesticides—to help sustain resilient ecosystems and harvests.
Biodiversity and Wildlife
Choose Native Plants
Native plants provide food and shelter for local wildlife and help ecosystems adapt to change. I will choose native plants for my yard, balcony, or community space instead of non-native or ornamental species to support biodiversity resilience.

beth routh 4/30/2026 6:31 AMI have learned a lot this earth month and enjoyed the prompts that taught me to look into new things. -
beth routh 4/14/2026 6:03 AMMy earth month is going pretty good. I have forgot to check in a few times but besides that I am learning a lot. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat did you learn about your water footprint, and what changes felt most practical or surprising? How does this connect to resilience on a larger scale?
beth routh 4/10/2026 9:08 AMI am actually very good about not using a lot of water or leaving it running. I turn the water off when I brush my teeth. I also only run my dishwasher when it is completely full. I got good about taking fast showers while living with my cousins in Hawaii. On a larger scale this helps reduce scarcity and also lessens the amount of energy used by water treatment facilities. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonalHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet? What fruits or vegetables did you try this week, and which was your favorite?
beth routh 4/10/2026 9:06 AMi feel less bloated when i eat fruits and veggies compared to meat. this week i ate a lot of strawberries. my fav !-

Harkiran Saluja 4/10/2026 9:14 AMGreat to hear you're feeling better when you eat less meat! When I became vegetarian, the transition was weird for a few days but then my body felt better than ever!

REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity and WildlifeWhat lights did you reduce or change, and how might this help wildlife near you?
beth routh 4/08/2026 6:49 AMI honestly don't have lights on that often in my house as I have a bunch of windows. I did reduce the bright LED lights in my bedroom and used a smaller lamp instead. This helps birds near me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity and WildlifeWhat native plants did you choose, and how do they support wildlife in your area? Share a photo in the feed!
beth routh 4/07/2026 6:12 AMI am actually already doing this. After living in Hawaii I really saw the effects of having an invasive plant taking over everything. Now that I live in Texas I have a couple of cactus plants and succulents on my balcony! Mine are too small to actually help wildlife but when the flowers bloom I have read that it helps bees. -
beth routh 4/04/2026 8:06 AMmy eco challenge is going pretty good. i am going to go support a small local owned business over the weekend. also going to go grocery shopping and will be able to use some of the info i learned to buy better products -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWhat is resilience? What examples of resilience in ecosystems did you learn about? How do these cycles of renewal change the way you see nature around you?
beth routh 4/03/2026 1:00 PMAfter looking up resilience in ecosystems a lot of examples were related on an ecosystems capability to recover from a fire. The cycles of renewal changed how i see nature bc now I can determine what phase it is apart of.
