Sustainable Innovation
Learn about Sustainable Innovation
Innovation can create a more sustainable world. I will spend 30 minutes learning about new materials, technologies, ideas, or practices that help solve environmental challenges and improve our planet's future.
Health and Well-Being
Prepare for Extreme Weather
Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.
Health and Well-Being
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 30 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.
Community and Connection
Share Information about Local Resources
Knowledge of local resources helps communities thrive. I will learn about local resources, especially mutual aid groups, and share them with others on social media, in conversations, or in other ways that help spread the word.
Community and Connection
Visit or Learn About a Culturally Significant Site Near Me
Sites of cultural and spiritual significance hold deep meaning for many communities, particularly Indigenous peoples. I will learn about or visit a site near me that is significant to the history, culture, or environment of the area. I will approach my visit with respect by researching its importance and guidelines beforehand, reflecting on how we can preserve these spaces for future generations.
Community and Connection
Check In with a Friend or Colleague
Staying connected strengthens relationships and boosts well-being. Each day, I will reach out to 1 friends or colleagues to check in, have a meaningful conversation, or offer support.
Wildlife
Learn to be a Responsible Tourist
Being a responsible tourist means not disturbing wildlife and choosing eco-friendly tour operators and destinations that prioritize wildlife conservation and respect animal welfare. I will spend 30 minutes researching ways to travel responsibly to ensure my adventures support, rather than harm, wildlife and their habitats.
Land, Water, and Air
Take Shorter Showers
Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat did you learn about how tourism impacts wildlife, and how can you make more conscious choices when planning a trip? How do you think your travel decisions can contribute to wildlife conservation and respectful interactions with nature?
Belle Ronnfeldt 4/22/2025 11:03 PMVisited Alserkal Avenue - Alserkal Initiatives is a socially responsible and forward-thinking arts and culture enterprise dedicated to developing homegrown initiatives, cultural production and events, while supporting creative minds and contemporary non-profit research. The Avenue hosts a community of over 70 contemporary art galleries, visual and performing arts organisations, designers, home-grown and entrepreneur-led businesses, and community spaces. I loved the pieces that explored the relationship between the environment / sustainability and social commentary - we can learn so much from one another. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSustainable InnovationWhat industries or sectors do you believe have the greatest potential to benefit from sustainable innovation, and how could they drive meaningful change? How do you think sustainable innovation will influence our future?
Belle Ronnfeldt 4/17/2025 11:42 PMRead an interesting article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-solutions/2025/04/12/air-pollution-paris-health-cars/
Premise: In the last two years, Paris has transformed much of its roads and parking into green spaces, giving priority to people walking or cycling. Amongst other green measures, this has lead to big drops in fine particulate matter and nitrogen.

Belle Ronnfeldt 4/15/2025 11:56 PMMoving to Dubai I have become aware of the air quality. The United Nation identifies air pollution as the top environmental health risk globally, with around 6.5 million deaths annually from indoor and outdoor pollution. Alarmingly, 9 out of 10 people breathe outdoor air that exceeds the permissible levels recommended by the World Health Organisation. I always refer to this website to decide if it's safe to exercise or walk outside -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat resources did you discover, and how do you think they can benefit your community? How did sharing this information make you feel more connected to your community’s needs and opportunities?
Belle Ronnfeldt 4/14/2025 11:41 PMAt the start of Earth Month, I visited the mountains of Sharjah, Wadi Shees - which is a beautiful blend of history and culture. I explored the Nature Trail which winds through farms, date palms, and is one of the oldest falaj (Arabic word which means 'split into parts) irrigation systems in the country—still functioning after nearly 3,000 years! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat did you learn about the sacred site’s history and significance? Why are these sites important to protect, support, and understand?
Belle Ronnfeldt 4/14/2025 11:40 PMVisited Daymaniyat Islands in Oman—a protected marine sanctuary.
Just floating there, I remembered something I hadn't thought about in years...
During my internship with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, I learned how conservation is about more than protecting nature-it's about reconnecting and sharing it with the world. So here's my encouragement: if there's an opportunity for you to get out and see some nature this weekend - do it! 🍃🌊
From environmental nonprofits to Middle Eastern megaprojects, one thing stays true: When you protect and respect your environment-whether it's a team, a culture, or an ecosystem-it always gives back.-
