Dewayne's actions

Land + Forests

30 for 30 in Nature

Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.

DAILY ACTIONS

Land + Forests

Regenerative Agriculture and Me

Regenerative agriculture focuses on farming and ranching in a way that supports life and restores the soil. I will spend 120 minutes learning about regenerative agriculture and find out if any nearby farms practice regenerative agriculture.

Weekly Meal Planning

One third of all food produced worldwide is wasted, and so is the energy it takes to produce and transport that food. I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need and eating what I planned each day.

Share My "Why"

I will record a video to share why I am taking action this Earth Month, a sustainable swap I've made, and/or a local conservation effort in my area.

We do a lot of meal planning. Most often it starts just after we go to the food bank. Based on what we get there and what we know we have at home, we can then go to the grocery store and buy ingredients needed to make meals for the week. Late winter early spring is a fun time of year for planning meals and gardens for the coming year. We recently acquired a solar dehydrator so we are planning some more prolific dehydrating favorable items for the garden this year. Hoping to add meat rabbits to our chicken flock, so will also plan for their feeding needs in the landscape and garden. We are hoping to finish our aquaponics system so will also have bluegill fry to supplement the chickens diet and raise omega content in the eggs. Plenty of fresh lettuce, ginger, turmeric, ashwagandha root and leaves, chamomile and calendula, as well as several types of lettuce will help reduce our need to travel far or spend the high rates at the grocery store as well as the carbon saved in not traveling.
