What is resilience?
Explore Resilience in Nature
Resilience is all around us in the natural world. I will spend 10 minutes outdoors looking for examples of resilience—such as plants regrowing, animals adapting, or seasonal cycles—and reflect on what they teach about thriving through change.
What is resilience?
Notice Resilience Around Me
Resilience shows up in many places. I will look for one example of resilience in my surroundings—whether in my community, work, or daily life—and reflect on what it teaches me about adapting to change.
Biodiversity and Wildlife
Donate to Support Wildlife
There are many amazing projects supporting wildlife and their habitats. I will choose a project or organization to support that helps species and habitats I care about and make a donation.
Personal
Meditate
Meditation helps build resilience and clarity. I will spend 10 minutes each day to meditate or create a moment of silence each day to reflect on things important to me.
Personal
Enjoy Fruits and Veggies
Eating a wide variety of colorful fruits and vegetables is a simple way to boost our personal health and support a more resilient food system. I will prepare and enjoy 3 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
Personal
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 20 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.
Community
Offer a Skill or Service
Sharing our talents can benefit those around us. I will offer my skills or services that contribute to local self-sufficiency, such as teaching a repair skill or helping with a neighbor's garden.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWhat is resilience? What examples of resilience did you notice outdoors? How did spending time in nature shape your understanding of resilience?
Roberta Richards 4/08/2026 9:08 PMResilience is on full display in the spring, as barren tree buds swell and new fronds emerge in ferns. Some flowering red currents that I planted last spring died and were just sticks -- but wait, now the sticks are now sporting new leaves! Where there is life, there is hope. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWhat is resilience? What example of resilience did you notice? How does observing resilience in your surroundings change how you think about adapting to change?
Roberta Richards 4/05/2026 8:43 PMToday I had the pleasure of hiking in Tryon Creek State Park, where the trilliums are blooming, mostly in protected areas under big trees off the path, while others flower boldly right on the edge of the path where so many people and dogs walk. These are the flowers that we notice most easily and bring the most joy. This is a reminder to be brave and take risks, and that beauty and vulnerability can coincide.-

That is wonderful, Roberta! We went to Tryon Creek SP on Sunday, too. The trilliums and bird calls were gorgeous! It would have been fun to have run into you. Wishing you well!
