COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Action Track

Take Part in a Community Beautification Project

Working together builds resilience and pride in the places we care about. I will participate in 1 community projects such as a cleanup or local beautification project that strengthens connections and shared purpose.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Take the Pre-Survey

Take the Pre-Event Survey

I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Work and Organizations

Join or Start a Green Team

Green teams strengthen resilience by creating shared responsibility. I will join or help start a green team in my workplace, school, or community group to support sustainability and collaboration.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Water

Create My Own Water Action

Everyone’s water needs and use are different. I will create an action that works for my life and supports water resilience—and make my commitment public by sharing it in the feed to inspire others.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Soil and Food

Grow Something to Eat

Growing food builds resilience by connecting us to the soil and reducing reliance on long supply chains. I will grow edible plants—such as herbs, vegetables, or grains—in my home, balcony, or community space, strengthening both my food security and local biodiversity.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Personal

Prepare for Extreme Weather

Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Biodiversity and Wildlife

Reduce Light Pollution

Too much artificial light can confuse and harm animals, especially those active at night. I will reduce sources of outdoor light or switch to wildlife-friendly fixtures to support healthy habitats.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

What is resilience?

Share a Definition of Resilience

Sharing builds common understanding. I will share 1 definitions of resilience that resonate with me—through conversations, social media, or the event feed—to help others explore what resilience means.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Biodiversity and Wildlife

Speak Up for Wildlife Protection

Wildlife needs support from people. I will take 1 actions, such as volunteering, signing petitions, contacting leaders, or sharing information on social media, to help protect habitats and species.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Biodiversity and Wildlife

Choose Native Plants

Native plants provide food and shelter for local wildlife and help ecosystems adapt to change. I will choose native plants for my yard, balcony, or community space instead of non-native or ornamental species to support biodiversity resilience.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Water

Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants

Mulching helps soil hold water and reduces runoff. I will mulch the base of trees or other plants at home, school, or in my community to improve water retention and soil health.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Personal

Go Get a Check Up

Regular health check-ups help prevent problems before they start. I will schedule or attend a medical, dental, or mental health check-up to take care of my well-being.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Soil and Food

Learn How to Save Pollinators

Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spend 1 minutes learning how to support local pollinators and take at least one action—such as planting native flowers or avoiding pesticides—to help sustain resilient ecosystems and harvests.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

What is resilience?

Notice Resilience Around Me

Resilience shows up in many places. I will look for one example of resilience in my surroundings—whether in my community, work, or daily life—and reflect on what it teaches me about adapting to change.

This Year Eco Challenge went well..
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Work and Organizations
How does being part of a green team strengthen collaboration? What role can green teams play in building organizational resilience?

hared purpose: Everyone is working toward the same environmental goals, which reduces friction and aligns effort.
Cross-team connection: Green teams often include people from different departments, which breaks down silos and improves communication.
Active problem-solving: Members regularly brainstorm, test ideas, and adjust plans together, which builds trust and creativity.
Visible impact: Seeing real results (less waste, greener spaces, lower energy use) reinforces teamwork and motivation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    What is resilience?
What story did you share, and how did it feel to share it? Did telling or hearing resilience stories shift how you think about strength and adaptability?

Starting a small community garden that struggled at first because of poor soil or lack of participation
Gradually improving it by adding compost, planting native species, and involving neighbours
Eventually seeing it become a shared green space that supports pollinators, food growing, and social connection
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    What is resilience?
What definition of resilience did you choose to share, and why? How did others respond to it, and did it spark any new insights for you?

Resilience is the ability of a system—whether a person, community, or ecosystem—to absorb shocks, adapt to change, and continue functioning without losing its core structure or purpose.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water
What did you notice about how mulching helps the soil and plants? How does this small action connect to bigger ideas of water resilience?

Soil stays moist for longer because the mulch slows down evaporation
Temperature becomes more stable, so roots aren’t stressed by heat or cold swings
Weeds reduce, meaning plants don’t have to compete as much for nutrients and water
Soil becomes richer over time as organic mulch breaks down and feeds microbes and worms
Plants often look healthier and more consistent in growth, especially during dry periods

Supportive of biodiversity (marigold, tulsi, sunflowers)

    Soil and Food
What did you learn about the role of pollinators in food systems? Did you take any action to support pollinators? If so, share a picture in the feed!

A key insight is that pollinators don’t just support “wild nature”—they directly support human food production and biodiversity. Crops like apples, tomatoes, almonds, cucumbers, and many others depend on or benefit from pollination. In fact, a large portion of global food production relies at least partly on animal pollination.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What did you do to prepare for extreme weather events? Did being more prepared improve your peace of mind or make you feel more prepared to help others? Share any tips or resources you found helpful in the feed!

Keep an emergency kit with torches, batteries, power bank, bottled water, and basic first aid items
Check the home for risks like loose roof tiles, blocked drains, or drafty windows
Save important numbers and sign up for local weather or flood alerts (for example, through the UK Environment Agency flood warnings)
Prepare for power cuts with charged devices and backup lighting
In heatwaves, set up cooling strategies like shading rooms, fans, and hydration plans
