SUNIL's actions

Land, Water, and Air

Reduce Vehicle Idling

Idling cars wastes fuel, contributes to climate change, and pollutes the air in our communities. I will turn off my engine when waiting in my car to reduce air pollution and carbon emissions.

DAILY ACTIONS

Land, Water, and Air

Take Shorter Showers

Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!

DAILY ACTIONS

Save Water When Washing Dishes

Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

Home stretch people! Every action counts!
A small change from this month turns into a habit, turns into a lifestyle, turns into community change, and on and on...
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How did being mindful of vehicle idling change your perspective on fuel consumption and air quality? What other transportation habits can you adopt to reduce your environmental impact?

Being in charge of travelling for sports teams, carpooling is always the way to go! Primarily it was a cost reduction factor but the less vehicles used also has the eco benefit.

I have even used public transport 6 times this month which is something I usually don't do.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
How did changing your dishwashing habits make you more mindful of water use? What other small changes can you make to conserve water in your household?

I saved lots of water this birthday weekend by washing mine of the dishes!!!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
How did shortening your showers affect your awareness of water conservation? What other water-saving practices can you adopt in your daily routine?

Through the eco challenge I was made aware of hand washing dishes vs dishwasher usage. Researching the amount of water used on economy cycles was less than hand washing. Or going old school using the "basin" method.

The not so popular "if it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down."
    Family decision needed there!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Well-Being
How did exercising each day impact your physical or mental well-being? What activity did you enjoy most, and why?

A different kind of meditation...working out at home forces you block everything else out. Focused on the task at hand. Doing super sets of push ups and squats mingled into the morning routine seems to be working. Luckily my girls are at the age where they can make their own lunches!! #parentinggoals

Today I needed to start the day with a little Zen.
5 minutes before I got out of car to go to work.
    Starts the day off right.
