Hooray, I finished all my one time actions in the Earth Month EcoChallenge! Now, I just need to focus on learning more about innovative actions that represent solutions as often as I can. The fun stuff!

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community and Connection
How did you participate in the sharing economy? (Consider posting a photo!) What are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?

WVC hosted its second clothing swap this year as part of our Zero Waste Wednesday events. It is interesting how we always get more clothing donated than people take away. Reusing clothing means that it is diverted from the landfill, plus we had a repair station so that helped people's existing clothing last longer.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Calculating my carbon footprint was really interesting. I knew that air travel was my downfall, but my kids live across the country and my relatives across the world. Otherwise, I live a low carbon lifestyle. I couldn't really take into account that the AC was powered by hydropower.

So many of my actions are one-time, that I am not checking in as often, but I am still practicing the daily actions that I established during previous EcoChallenges.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Sustainable Innovation
Equitable access, environmental justice and creating employment opportunities are just a few advantages of low-income solar programs. What motivated you to support solar energy initiatives for low-income communities, and how do you think it contributes to a more equitable future?

These programs are really great to address climate justice in low income communities across various states, not WA, but others. I really like the Vote Solar initiatives and the Grid group's work since it benefits those who likely did less to cause the climate crisis but now with these solar projects can get clean renewable, more affordable electricity.
