I decided that I am not doing well on trying to source 50% of my meals from local sources at this time of year.  I need my CSA back and the farmers market to start up!  So, I created a custom action that I called repair.  This morning, I tackled the big pile of socks, sweaters, and even pants, that all needed sewing to repair small holes that were making me not want to wear them.  This way, I won't buy new ones, but can continue to use my old clothes and thereby save the greenhouse gases that would have been emitted in the transportation and even manufacturing of any new items.

That's a great idea! I will make time to do the same this weekend. I've been putting off repairing clothes (and a cat bed) in my house because I'm a terrible seamstress, but that's what YouTube is for, right? Thanks for inspiring me, Captain!

It is going pretty well.  The walking is easy because it has been lovely weather and the Foothills are gorgeous with wildflowers.  Sourcing locally has been harder because farmers market doesn't open until May and my CSA is between seasons (Winter and Spring greens).  I will see if I can find some local asparagus, but it won't be 50% of my diet.  Last year, I selected 3 minute showers as one of my challenges.  That one is very hard, but I try to keep it in mind now and take shorter showers to conserve our precious water supply.

Action Track: Climate Resilience Support Local Food Systems
Dependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?

Supporting local farmers inspires me most.  That's why I worked as the Central Washington farm to school coordinator for 5 years and why I have been part of a local CSA for many, many years.  This is the time of year that I feel a little lost, when my Winter CSA has finished and my Spring/Summer one hasn't started yet.  Our farmers market doesn't start up again until mid-May, so I have to look for farmstands that might be selling asparagus instead.
