Wildlife

Learn about Native Species

The world is full of unique species that all play an important role in nature. I will spend 5 minutes learning what the native plants and wildlife are in my region.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Wildlife

Use Reusable Bags

Plastic bags do not always end up in landfills and if they aren't properly disposed of. In nature, they can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and harm wildlife. When I go shopping, I will be sure to bring my own bags to reduce waste and the chance that plastic bags could find their way into wildlife habitats.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Land, Water, and Air

Understand My Water Footprint

Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land, Water, and Air

Collect Rain Water

Rainwater collection reduces water waste and supports gardens. I will install a rain barrel or collect rainwater to use for 2 outdoor tasks, such as watering plants or cleaning.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land, Water, and Air

Join a Cleanup Effort

Working together to clean up public spaces helps the environment and builds community. I will participate in 1 community cleanup efforts in my neighborhood or local area.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Sustainable Innovation

Replace Old Bulbs with LED Bulbs

Energy-efficient lighting is a bright idea. I will replace 2 incandescent light bulbs with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Wildlife

Remove Invasive Species

Removing invasive species (species that are not naturally found in my area and can outcompete native plants) can help beautify nature around me and protect local biodiversity. I will learn about invasive plants in my area and, if possible, support or participate in at least one effort to beautify nature near me by removing invasive species.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Sustainable Innovation

Choose a Product Made with Sustainable Materials

Every choice matters. I will purchase or switch to products made from sustainable or recycled materials to support innovation and reduce environmental impact.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Sustainable Innovation

Advocate For Better Food Packaging

When companies and governments make large-scale changes to their products and practices, it makes sustainability more accessible to the masses, in turn creating further demand for sustainable products, and the cycle continues. I will advocate for improved, sustainable food packaging through petitions, letters, or by supporting brands that prioritize eco-friendly packaging - and share my advocacy actions on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Health and Well-Being

Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns

Environmental issues often impact marginalized communities the most. I will spend 10 minutes researching environmental justice concerns in my region, who is affected by them, and local initiatives to address these concerns.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Health and Well-Being

Prioritize Getting Enough Sleep

Good sleep is essential for a healthy body and mind. I will prioritize getting 45 minutes of quality sleep each night and develop a bedtime routine that supports rest and relaxation.

COMPLETED 2
DAILY ACTIONS

Health and Well-Being

Reduce Refined Sugar

Cutting back on refined sugar can improve energy, mood, and overall health. I will limit my intake of sugary snacks and drinks by reducing refined sugar in meals or snacks each day.

COMPLETED 2

I wrote an email to Nestle, a popular food company with not fully sustainable packaging to try and get them to change it since the enviroment depends on it. If others do it as well, there are higher chances they will change it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Sustainable Innovation
What sustainable product did you purchase, and how does it align with your values?

I purchased bread in a paper back, since paper can easily be decomposed and is not bag for the enviroment, so I was happy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Sustainable Innovation
How did replacing old bulbs with LED bulbs make you feel about reducing your energy consumption? What other small energy-saving actions could you take to reduce your environmental impact?

I felt good when I replaced my old lightbulbs with led since it will consume less electricity and my parents would have to pay less. I could also turn off and unplug unused light from the outlets to conserve electricity.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
What was the most unexpected piece of trash that was picked up during your local cleanup effort? How does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?

I joined a cleanup at rose Creek, and a couple of the most unexpected things we gathered were huge light bulbs to light up a sport center, a mini fridge and chair cushions from different locations but from the same couch. Working with others in my community made me feel included.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
How did collecting rainwater influence your understanding of sustainable water use? What tasks or activities could benefit most from rainwater collection in your household?

Colecting rain water made me realize how easy I is to get water that can be used in the future like watering plants, and I felt sustainable since the rain water went to good use. Watering plants and washing my bike benefits most from rainwater collection.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
What surprised you most about your water footprint, and how did it influence your perspective on water use? What changes can you make to reduce your water consumption, and how will these impact your daily routine?

I didn't know that I was leaving such a large water footprint behind, so I'm just no starting to conserve it a little, especially since many people don't know how much water they use and are not mindful about it, wasting a precious resource. I'm gonna shower for shorter amounts of time and clean dishes and laundry only when I have a full load.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife
What native species did you learn about in your area, and how do they contribute to your local ecosystem or community? How might your community change if these native species disappeared?

The citizens and animals in my community are not affected by the degradation of the enviorment, since they have to deal with all the trash, and this can be avoided with cleanups and throwing trash away properly.
