Advocate For Better Food Packaging

When companies and governments make large-scale changes to their products and practices, it makes sustainability more accessible to the masses, in turn creating further demand for sustainable products, and the cycle continues. I will advocate for improved, sustainable food packaging through petitions, letters, or by supporting brands that prioritize eco-friendly packaging - and share my advocacy actions on the feed.

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife
What did you learn about how tourism impacts wildlife, and how can you make more conscious choices when planning a trip? How do you think your travel decisions can contribute to wildlife conservation and respectful interactions with nature?

Choose locally owned accommodations, restaurants, and tour guides. This ensures that your money directly benefits the communities that are often the custodians of wildlife habitats.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife
How did it feel to plant something, and what kind of gardening did you do (indoors, hydroponic, outside in a garden, etc)? What did you plant and where? Feel free to share a photo to the feed!

I have placed indoor plants at home.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Wildlife
What project or organization did you choose to support, and why did it resonate with you? What are some ways you can continue to support wildlife conservation beyond financial contributions?

Join local groups for hands-on tasks like building wildlife ponds, creating hedgehog highways, or managing woodlands.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Sustainable Innovation
What sustainable product did you purchase, and how does it align with your values?

    Maureen Perea's avatar
    Maureen Perea 4/30/2025 1:08 AM
Sustainable products are designed to minimize environmental impact throughout their lifecycle, from raw material sourcing to disposal. This includes reducing pollution, conserving resources, and minimizing waste, directly supporting the value of environmental stewardship.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Sustainable Innovation
How did replacing old bulbs with LED bulbs make you feel about reducing your energy consumption? What other small energy-saving actions could you take to reduce your environmental impact?

    Maureen Perea's avatar
    Maureen Perea 4/30/2025 1:07 AM
Switch off lights when not in use.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Sustainable Innovation
What actions did you take to advocate for sustainable food packaging, and how were they received? How do you think widespread changes in food packaging could benefit the planet?

    Maureen Perea's avatar
    Maureen Perea 4/30/2025 1:06 AM
Conventional plastic packaging is a major contributor to landfill waste and ocean pollution. It degrades slowly, persisting for centuries and harming marine life through ingestion and entanglement. A shift towards biodegradable, compostable, or reusable packaging would drastically reduce the amount of plastic entering these ecosystems.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
How did collecting rainwater influence your understanding of sustainable water use? What tasks or activities could benefit most from rainwater collection in your household?

    Maureen Perea's avatar
    Maureen Perea 4/30/2025 1:05 AM
When we rely on rainwater, we become directly aware of the fluctuations in water availability based on rainfall patterns. This contrasts with the often-unseen and seemingly endless supply from taps, making us appreciate that water is a finite resource.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
What was the most unexpected piece of trash that was picked up during your local cleanup effort? How does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?

    Maureen Perea's avatar
    Maureen Perea 4/30/2025 1:05 AM
Seeing the immediate and visible results of your efforts – a cleaner park, a litter-free street – provides a strong sense of accomplishment. You can see the direct positive impact you've made.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Empowering the Next Generation
What impressed you most about the youth-led project you supported, and how did your involvement help?

    Maureen Perea's avatar
    Maureen Perea 4/30/2025 1:04 AM
It's incredibly inspiring to see young people identify a need or a problem in our local area and then take the initiative to develop and implement a project to address it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Empowering the Next Generation
How did participating in a bio-blitz with young people enhance their understanding of local biodiversity? What impact do you think activities like a bio-blitz have on inspiring youth to protect nature?

    Maureen Perea's avatar

Bio-blitzes often involve scientists and naturalists who guide the young people, teaching them basic identification techniques for plants, insects, birds, and other organisms. This mentorship provides valuable practical skills.
