The Eco-Challenge that we did for class this past April taught me a lot more than I anticipated. Growing up I always understood the importance of recycling and the everyone going green all of a sudden, but I wasn't aware of how dedicated the world is to preserving the Earth and promoting health. I paid more attention to my carbon print and my health this time around because I recently realized just how inactive and careless I had been lately. I wasn't the best at using trash cans and was more concerned about the tickets you could get rather than why its a law in the first place. I was amazed to hear some insight from my coworkers as they told me what they were doing for the month's challenge. I knew that it was a big deal but I wasn't aware of the impact. I influenced a few of my students to start collecting cans and recycling. I also go them to pay more attention to their carbon footprints. It's rewarding to see the results of the challenge. I would run and walk and some of them would tag along with me to time me. I had a great time bonding and making giving them something positive to look to. I felt great after every run even though the time would vary because emergencies would arise even if I was on my lunch. I wasn't able to check in on my last day but I was able to make up for it the next day. I think I loved the Eco-Challenge the most because I was able to see my son's school was participating and teaching the kids about it and that's really when I knew I had to continue to lead by example. Thank you for this opportunity to grow and gain a better me in the process.
