Wildlife
Learn to be a Responsible Tourist
Being a responsible tourist means not disturbing wildlife and choosing eco-friendly tour operators and destinations that prioritize wildlife conservation and respect animal welfare. I will spend 30 minutes researching ways to travel responsibly to ensure my adventures support, rather than harm, wildlife and their habitats.
Community and Connection
Check In with a Friend or Colleague
Staying connected strengthens relationships and boosts well-being. Each day, I will reach out to 3 friends or colleagues to check in, have a meaningful conversation, or offer support.
Health and Well-Being
Prepare for Extreme Weather
Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.
Land, Water, and Air
Conduct a Home Energy Audit
Reducing energy use helps protect the air and climate. I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy and reduce pollution.
Land, Water, and Air
Save Water When Washing Dishes
Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.
Land, Water, and Air
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Produce No Waste for a Day
The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Join a Cleanup Effort
Working together to clean up public spaces helps the environment and builds community. I will participate in 1 community cleanup efforts in my neighborhood or local area.
Land, Water, and Air
Choose Eco-Friendly Wood and Paper Products
Trees provide food and habitat for local wildlife species, shade our streets and homes, and help keep our air and water clean by capturing pollutants. I will learn about certification labels and buy wood and paper products certified as sustainable or recycled to protect forests and reduce environmental harm.
Land, Water, and Air
Reduce Food Waste
Wasting food also wastes water, energy, and resources. I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.
Community and Connection
Visit or Learn About a Culturally Significant Site Near Me
Sites of cultural and spiritual significance hold deep meaning for many communities, particularly Indigenous peoples. I will learn about or visit a site near me that is significant to the history, culture, or environment of the area. I will approach my visit with respect by researching its importance and guidelines beforehand, reflecting on how we can preserve these spaces for future generations.
Wildlife
Learn How to Save the Bees
Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spending 20 minutes learning about local pollinators and why they are so important.
Community and Connection
Explore My Area
Discovering what’s nearby fosters a deeper connection to my community. I will explore 5 new places in my area, such as parks, historical sites, or local businesses.
Community and Connection
Attend a Local Event
Local events such as farmers' markets, festivals, or community meetings like town halls are great ways to feel part of a community. I will attend 2 community events to connect with others and learn more about my area.
Community and Connection
Join a Group
Belonging to a group can help build friendships and a sense of purpose. I will explore online or in-person groups or clubs that share my interests or goals and join a group to connect with others.
Wildlife
Learn the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace
Leave No Trace means enjoying nature responsibly by minimizing our impact and leaving the environment as we found it, or better. I will spend 30 minutes learning about the seven core principles to minimize my impact while enjoying the outdoors.
Health and Well-Being
Go Get a Check Up
Regular health check-ups help prevent problems before they start. I will schedule or attend a medical, dental, or mental health check-up to take care of my well-being.
Land, Water, and Air
Learn About Water Justice
Access to clean water is a basic right, yet not everyone has it. I will spend 60 minutes learning about water justice issues and who is affected.

Olga Parshina 4/07/2025 10:36 PMLast week my company organized general check-ups for all employees, so I took part in it. The doctor in the office checked things like blood pressure and sugar levels, which gave me peace of mind knowing that at least those basics are okay. It also felt nice to meet some coworkers there—it added a bit of a social touch to the experience. Overall, it was a simple but reassuring action, and I left feeling good about taking care of my health. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money? What patterns did you notice in the food you threw away, and how can you address them?
Olga Parshina 4/06/2025 5:35 PMSometimes I overbuy or don’t use things in time. To address this, I could plan meals better, buy in smaller quantities, or use leftovers creatively. Maybe even freezing extra produce before it spoils could help reduce waste. Being more mindful about portion sizes and how much I actually need could also cut down on the food I end up tossing.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionHow did checking in with someone strengthen your relationship or provide support? How did it feel to reach out and connect?
Olga Parshina 4/06/2025 5:25 PMI checked in with a friend who had been struggling by sending a quick message asking how they were. They opened up about feeling overwhelmed, and it felt good to offer some support, even if it was just a few words.Reaching out was simple but meaningful. It made me feel connected and like I was doing something good for my friend. It was a reminder that even small gestures can make a difference and help strengthen relationships.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat surprised you most about your water footprint, and how did it influence your perspective on water use? What changes can you make to reduce your water consumption, and how will these impact your daily routine?
Olga Parshina 4/04/2025 3:06 PMWhat surprised me most about my water footprint was how much water is used in everyday activities that I hadn’t considered, like food production and energy use. It made me realize that my water consumption extends far beyond just what I use directly. It made me realize that my water use goes beyond just what I drink or clean with. but as something connected to almost everything I do.
To reduce my water consumption, I can make small changes like using less water when cooking, cutting down on shower time. These changes might take some getting used to, but over time they’ll become habits, and they won’t affect my daily routine too much. The biggest change will be becoming more aware of my water use. -

Olga Parshina 4/03/2025 5:48 PMI had no idea bees were this incredible until I read the facts related to the "Learn How to Save the Bees" activity. Just think about it: there are 4,000 species of wild bees in the U.S. and 20,000 worldwide? That completely blew my mind! I was also amazed to find out that a third of the world’s food depends on bees, and their work adds over $34 billion to U.S. crops annually! What really surprised me is the effect of pesticides and air pollutionon bees. I thought it simply makes them die, but it can also mess up their navigation, learning, and even their ability to find food, just did not think this way... Also i had an idea how the bees produce honey, but wax - no! so it was also something new to meI feel inspired —I even told my mom to plant flowers like marigolds and sunflowers to help support these amazing creatures :)-

I agree, bees are extremely underrated and underappreciated. If you want a book recommendation, check out "The secret life of bees". It tells a wonderful story--sort of connected to a bee's life and their importance.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow do pollinators impact your daily life, and what changes can you make to ensure they continue to thrive?
Olga Parshina 4/03/2025 5:37 PMPollinators like bees and butterflies help grow the food we eat and keep nature healthy. To help them thrive, we can grow flowers they like, skip pesticides that harm them and use them wisely, such as when it is not windy, and outside bees 2working hours", buy honey and other products locally
